A teeny tiny bear cub gets our featured spot today! Meet Pekoe, a Normal cub villager who is as sweet as sweet tea and as cuddly as a stuffed teddy. See her bloom in her very own Pekoe Villager Guide!
Who is Pekoe in Animal Crossing?
Pekoe is a bear cub villager with a Normal personality. She only joined the Animal Crossing series when City Folk was released, but she has been in every game since.
Her birthday is May 18th, and she likes to read about gardening and critters because of her Nature hobby.
Pekoe’s Name
Both her English and Japanese names have tea origins. In the original Japanese games, her name is Jasmine, which is derived from jasmine tea, a tea that is mixed with jasmine blossoms.
In English, she is called Pekoe, and is a term for high-quality tea made from young tea leaves or buds. This also connects to her catchphrase!
Pekoe’s Looks
Like other bear cub villagers in the game, Pekoe is tiny and has a round head and a small body, with stubby ears on top. Her fur is cream-colored with a faint pink blush color on her paws and cheeks. Her eyes are almond-shaped with turquoise pupils and noticeable eyelashes.
She also has black hair with straight-cut bangs. There are designs at the base of her ears that make them look like a bun hairstyle.
This goes well with her default New Horizons outfit, a red Sleeveless Silk Dress. In previous games, like in New Leaf and City Folk, she wore a Hot Spring Tee or Shirt.
You can sometimes see Pekoe strolling around with an umbrella or bag. She would be out with an Exquisite Parasol or a Veggie-Print Bag, or she would be eating an Orange Popsicle or a Chocolate Donut. True to her name, you can find her sipping tea from a Tea Can or Yellow Mug.
Pekoe’s Catchphrase
Talk to Pekoe and you’ll notice she says “bud” a lot. Meanwhile, in Japanese, she says “cha” in her conversations. Both of these catchphrases relate back to her tea and flower themes in her English and Japanese names.
Pekoe’s Personality
You’ll immediately know that she’s a Normal villager upon your first conversation with her. Like other Normal villagers, Pekoe is very sweet and pleasant, and she is always kind to the player.
Normal villagers are called as such because they usually have a neutral stance towards the players, while other personalities can get a bit rude or condescending to you, especially in older games.
In some Animal Crossing communities, they are called Sweet or Sweetie villagers.
Normal villagers get along with other personalities most of the time, and you can say the same thing with Pekoe. While Snooty or Cranky villagers can get a bit mean or rough with their conversations, Normal villagers can still get along with them and even cheer for them.
Sometimes misunderstandings or arguments still happen, like when laid-back Lazy villagers accidentally spoil her favorite movie or TV show, or when Pekoe inadvertently sounds a bit callous towards a Peppy villager. Thankfully, misunderstandings can easily get fixed in New Horizons!
Pekoe’s House
Her house has an East Asian design, just like her default outfit and her overall tea theme. Exterior-wise, the roof is a Black Tile Roof, it has White and Red Asian Sliding, and the entryway is a Black Imperial Door.
Step inside and you’ll see a continuation of her house’s East Asian theme. She uses the Exquisite Wall for her wallpaper and her floors are Bamboo Flooring.
Her furniture is mostly from the Imperial Set, like the Imperial Bed, Imperial Partitions, Imperial Chest, Imperial Low Table, and Imperial Decorative Shelves.
Of course, she has to have tea in her room! She has a tea related name, after all. You can see her Traditional Tea Set on her Imperial Low Table. Visit her to enjoy tea time to the sounds of Imperial K.K.
Pekoe’s Popularity
In some Animal Crossing communities, like in Animal Crossing Portal, Pekoe went down from the more popular tiers. She still isn’t completely unknown and her current popularity ranking as of writing this piece is not so bad.
How to get Pekoe in Animal Crossing?
There are currently 17 cubs in New Horizons, with four of those having a Normal personality like Pekoe. If you wanna get her through the Campsite method or Mystery Island tours, luck needs to be on your side.
This is because the game rolls for species first, followed by personality.
Don’t want to rely on luck? Get Pekoe through her Amiibo card or by inviting her from another player’s island.
What To Gift Pekoe in Animal Crossing?
Pekoe’s preferred fashion designs are in the styles of Elegant and Cute. Some examples of these are the Mermaid Tiara, Ancient Sashed Robe, or a red Snowy Knit Cap.
If you want to give her a gift, keep in mind that she loves the colors red and beige.
Pro-tip for gift giving: wrap it in wrapping paper for extra friendship points!
Pekoe in the DLC
Pekoe’s idea of the most ideal vacation island is to turn it into a zen resort. Grant her this peaceful and serene getaway by using an Imperial Low Table and a Traditional Tea Set for your design.
Pekoe Trivia
She is featured on the cover of Imperial K.K., which is also her choice of music at home.
