Honk honk! Here comes the sheep clown! Pietro is here to shake things up in Animal Crossing with his goofy circus act.
He is colorful, fluffy, and eager to spread joy to everyone – now, if only he’s less smug about things. A round of applause for his Pietro Villager Guide, please!
Who is Pietro in Animal Crossing?
Pietro is a sheep villager with a Smug personality. He has a clown design that makes him one of the standout villagers in the entire game series.
He was actually only added to Animal Crossing when New Leaf was released, but he has since appeared in other recent games, like Happy Home Designer, Amiibo Festival, Pocket Camp, and New Horizons.
His birthday is on April 19th and is part of the Aries star sign group.
Pietro’s Name
Pietro’s English name is most likely from Piero, the Japanese word for a clown. It’s a loanword from French – Pierrot is a French pantomime character that takes on the role of the buffoon.
Pietro’s no buffoon, but he does make a clown of himself when he interacts with Snooty personalities!
Surprisingly, his name in Japanese isn’t Piero, Pierrot, or Pietro. It’s Jupetti.
Pietro’s Looks
Pietro’s clown character design is immediately obvious. One look and you’ll immediately notice his rainbow wool, colorful clown makeup, and jester-looking outfit.
His wool has layers of red, bright green, aqua, bright purple, yellow, bright green, light blue, and magenta. His horns are different shades of teal or aqua.
His legs and arms are white, with his hooves a light red. Basically, Pietro is very colorful.
Like a clown’s base makeup, Pietro’s face is white. His left eye has a pink heart face paint on it, while his right eye has a tear underneath it. He has a big red smile, with an equally big red nose. Honk honk!
Pietro wears a Dawn Tee in New Leaf but upgraded it to a Jester Costume in New Horizons, which is frankly way more appropriate for him. To go with his colorful character design, his phone case and umbrella are also rainbow-colored.
Pietro’s Catchphrase
Pietro’s English and Japanese catchphrases reflect his clown persona.
In English, he says “honk honk” in his conversations, which is a reference to how a clown’s nose can make a honk or squeaky sound when squeezed.
In Japanese, he says “gufufu” and is another Japanese onomatopoeia for laughing. Spread joy with your honking and laughing, Pietro!
Pietro’s Personality
Pietro is a Smug villager, so you will often see him use big words to seem cultured and sophisticated.
His interests are usually about new fads on food, fashion, or high culture. He will definitely tell you how you should enjoy certain things!
Unfortunately, because of his eagerness bordering on being pushy when it comes to sharing his opinions and interests, Pietro can upset other personalities.
Here’s a really popular screenshot shared within the first few weeks of Animal Crossing New Horizons.
A lot of people found it amusing how Pietro’s just nearby when Kitty was complaining about him, while some felt bad for this poor clown sheep. Smug villagers can really get on the nerves of their Snooty and Big Sister villagers.
The good thing is it’s not the end for our clown pal here. Although he annoys some of his neighbors, they do give him a chance and hear him out or take him down a peg or two.
All’s well that ends well in Animal Crossing.
Despite his fluffed-up opinions of himself, Pietro is definitely capable of being sweet and caring to others, especially to the player.
He will not hesitate to give his compliments and gratitude!
Pietro’s House
The outside of Pietro’s house doesn’t look like a circus or a clown house, but it still does reflect his colors.
The exterior of his house is a combination of a Red Wooden Tile Roof, Mint Blue Stucco Exterior walls, and a Green Apple Basic Door. Seems simple, but let’s take a peek inside!
The inside of his house is an interesting mix of being in the clouds and carnival games. This heavenly circus abode has a Sky Wall, Cloud Flooring, and the K.K. Parade tune.
For games and rides, you can enjoy his Springy Ride-Ons, Colorful Wheels, Jukebox, and Crescent Moon chairs. Want a snack? He has his own Cotton Candy Stall!
Pietro’s Popularity
Thanks to Animal Crossing Portal’s monthly online surveys, we can somewhat get the gist of who’s still popular and coveted for the players.
For Pietro, he’s still quite popular. Even though his popularity waned a bit recently, he is still ranked in tier 2!
How to Get Pietro?
Pietro is currently the only Smug villager among the sheep. The game rolls species first followed by personality when you go island hopping, so Pietro is not that difficult to meet.
The Campsite method won’t need Nook Miles Tickets, but you will still need a lot of patience and luck. You can increase your chances of getting Pietro if you don’t have any Smug villagers on your island.
What to gift Pietro in Animal Crossing?
True to his clown theme, Pietro loves clothes and items that are red or colorful. He loves to wear Gorgeous and Simple styles, so you can probably give him a Flashy Cardigan, Masquerade Mask, or a Comedian’s Outfit.
Pietro in the DLC
Pietro wants a carnival for his vacation home. Make his world of dreams a reality with Plaza Balloon Wagons, Ferris Wheel, and Game Stands.
