A black cat brings bad luck?
Au contraire, pomme de terre! This little black cat will bring luck, joy, and sweetness to your island.
Today’s featured Animal Crossing villager is Kiki! Let’s welcome her in her very own Kiki Villager Guide.
Who is Kiki in Animal Crossing?
Kiki is a black cat villager with a Normal personality. She has been in the first Animal Crossing game and has appeared in all of the games since, most recently in New Horizons.
Because she is one of the original villagers in the series, she is pretty popular with longtime fans.
Her birthdate is October 8th and her star sign is Libra.
Kiki’s Name
Both her original Japanese name and English localized name have cute origins.
Her English name, Kiki, could be a reference to the black cat in the Studio Ghibli movie Kiki’s Delivery Service. In the movie, the main character Kiki has a black cat companion named Jiji.
In the original Japanese games, she is actually called Kyabia, and is most likely a Japanese spelling or pronunciation of caviar. Black caviar, which is harvested from sturgeons, suits Kiki’s color scheme.
Cats love fish roe, but it’s good to remember that it should only be a rare treat for cats because of its rawness and salty content. Take note, Kiki!
Kiki’s Looks
Kiki’s fur is all black, with the tips of her arms, legs, and tail a darker black. The only other colors on her character design are the pink and purpleness of her inner ears, her yellow sclera behind her black eyes, and her red mouth.
Her ears are perked up and her nose is a bit upturned.
In all of the games, she has been wearing different forms of her Argyle Shirt. In New Horizons, this has been upgraded to an Argyle Sweater.
Kiki always has a smile on her face showing her sunny disposition. This matches with her Sunny Parasol that she takes out due to the weather.
Kiki’s Catchphrase
Kiki inserts “kitty cat” in her conversations. This catchphrase suits her since she’s a cat and her name has “ki” in it too. In Japanese, she says “dani”.
Kiki’s Personality
As a Normal villager, Kiki is sweet, pleasant, thoughtful, and considerate. She would always be happy to see the player and loves to give inspiring and motivational messages to cheer you up.
Even when she’s sick, she will worry about you and would feel bad that she can’t accommodate you properly in her home. Aww, sweet Kiki, worry about yourself first!
Interacting with other Normal villagers will double the sweetness on your island. Kiki and other Normal villagers will talk about pleasant activities they can do, like baking, picnicking, starting a book club, stargazing, and giving gifts to their neighbors.
Talking and giving gifts to your villagers every day will increase your friendship with them, and this is the case with Kiki as well.
Eventually, she will start giving you presents as a way to say thanks. Don’t be too surprised with the gifts that you get, though!
Kiki’s House
Can you picture what a black cat’s house would look like? If you thought of a gloomy house in the woods with dark colors and witchy furniture for Kiki, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Kiki lives a simple life, and her delightful personality is reflected in the warm colors and atmosphere in her house. Outside, her roof is a Red Wooden Tile Roof, with Orange Stucco Exterior, and a Green Windowed Door.
The interior design follows the same color scheme. Her walls are covered with orange wallpaper called Mod Wall, and she has a red Cuckoo Clock, red Cute Music Player, and red Velvet Stool.
She also has some Ironwood furniture in her kitchen, with an Antique Table and Chair duo in her dining area.
Kiki seems to enjoy music since she has a black Upright Piano and her music player is playing K.K. ‘s Only Me.
Kiki’s Popularity
Since she has been in all of the games to date, Kiki has many longtime fans and many Animal Crossing players recognize her. In the first popularity poll held for the first game, Kiki got 11th place!
Thanks to Animal Crossing Portal’s monthly polls, we can currently see where Kiki places in terms of popularity for New Horizons.
She’s currently at tier 2, which is considered very popular. Well done, Kiki! We’ll definitely see you in the next Animal Crossing game too.
How to Get Kiki in Animal Crossing?
If you use the Mystery Tours method to get Kiki, you better hope the game rolls cat first and then Normal so you get a chance to meet Kiki.
But even then, you really have to be lucky, since there are three Normals among the 23 cats in New Horizons.
If you want to do the Campsite method instead, it seems like you’ll get a higher chance of having Kiki if you haven’t seen her yet and you don’t have any Normal villagers on your island.
Both methods mentioned will require a lot of luck and patience, not to mention Nook Miles Tickets for tours.
The two easiest methods are scanning her Amiibo Card and inviting someone else’s Kiki to move into your island.
What to Gift Kiki?
To get closer to Kiki, give her gifts.
She’s fond of clothes in Simple styles with brown and beige colors. Some suggestions are a Frugal Hat, a Stylish Jumpsuit, or a Layered Tank Dress.
Kiki in the DLC
Kiki wants a Seafood Snack Bar as her vacation home. You can fulfill this by using the items Counter Chair, Counter Table, and Carp on a Cutting Board.
