If it looks like a duck and waddles sweetly around your island like a duck, it’s probably Molly the duck! If you love cute ducks and sweet villagers, Molly is your girl.
She’s adorable, kind, and would love to talk to you about books. Learn more about her in this Molly Villager Guide!
Who is Molly?
A duck villager with a Normal personality, Molly joined the Animal Crossing games when New Leaf was released back in 2012. She is back in New Horizons, to the delight of her old and new fans alike.
Let’s waddle along with Molly in this Molly Animal Crossing villager guide.
Molly’s Name
Molly is a brown mallard duck, and it’s possible she is named Molly in the English localization because it sounds similar to mallard.
In Japanese, she is called Kamomi—-kamo (鴨) means duck! Both creative names for this cute duck, don’t you think?
Molly’s Looks
If you’re a fan of duck villagers, Molly is definitely one of the cutest villagers in Animal Crossing.
She is a brown mallard duck with brown, white, and yellow feathers all over her, with dark brown markings on her face.
It seems mallard ducks, when young or female, will have yellow feathers on their faces—-just like Molly!
She also has big blush spots on her cheeks that go really well with her oval eyes. Another cute detail is her big yellow beak.
Her default clothing is a lime Pintuck-Pleated Dress, and this really compliments her colors and sweetness.
In New Leaf, she donned a Canary Shirt in yellow. When it’s raining, you can probably see her waddling around on your island with a White Shiny-Bows Parasol.
Ducks have big dome-shaped heads, wide bills, and itty bitty wings. Add all that with Molly’s details and it all comes together as an adorable character design.
Molly’s Catchphrase
Molly usually ends her sentences with “quackidee” in English, which is just duck sounds but in a cute way.
In Japanese, she says “soukamo” a lot, which is a nice combination of an agreeing expression plus a duck reference.
Improve your friendship with her to get the chance of changing her catchphrase. You can make it cuter or choose something funny for the shenanigans.
Molly’s Personality
Molly is one of the Normal villagers in Animal Crossing. Her sweet nature is evident once you talk to her or see her interact with her fellow villagers.
Like other Normal villagers, Molly usually won’t have any arguments with her neighbors.
Normal villagers are called as such because they have a neutral and pleasant interaction with the player, unlike how other personalities react.
In Japanese, this personality is called Futsuu, but in other Animal Crossing communities, fans like to call them Sweet or Sweetie.
With Molly, sometimes her kindness is just the positivity you need to brighten up your day.
Molly’s House in Animal Crossing
Just like her, Molly’s house has a comforting and homey feeling. Outside, it has a Light-Brown Log Exterior with an Orange Thatch Roof and Maple Wooden Door.
Step inside and you’ll see such a welcoming abode with a color theme similar to her. Her room is surrounded by Brown Lattice Walls, and her floor has the Light Herringbone Flooring with a Red Dotted Rug and an Ivory Small Round Mat.
For lounging and tea, she has a Yellow Double Sofa, a Wooden Low Table, and a Tea Set in green.
Molly also has classy decorations like her Antique Bureau, Wooden Bookshelf, Fancy Violin, and Music Stand. Enjoy some classical music while sipping tea at Molly’s!
Molly’s Popularity
There are a lot of Normal and duck villagers in New Horizons, and with such a big list you might be wondering if Molly is noticed by the community.
Well, I’m glad to report that she is often ranked high on a lot of popularity lists.
Her tiny duck adorableness and delightful presence are often mentioned by players as reasons for keeping her on their islands.
Chance to Get Molly in Animal Crossing
With 17 ducks and 63 Normal villagers in New Horizons, you might have to prepare a few tickets to roll for her through Mystery Island tours.
When you look for villagers through Mystery Islands, it seems the game randomizes your trip by rolling for species first, then personality.
With only two Normals among the ducks, it’s possible you can get Molly if you get lucky or have the stars align to get your game to pick a duck and Normal.
If using Nook Miles Tickets is not your thing, you can always try her Amiibo card! Using this, you can invite her to your island anytime.
What You Need to Get Molly
Molly likes the colors yellow and pink, and she would love to wear clothes under the cute and simple categories.
For starters, you can gift her a Heart Hairpin in pink, a Simple Visiting Kimono in yellow, or maybe even a Baby-Chick Costume.

Molly in the DLC
Her ideal vacation home in Happy Home Paradise is to make it like a publishing house. Molly’s little bookworm self really shines through here.
You have to use an Office Desk, some Stacked Magazines, and a Tall File Cabinet to start. After designing her home, you get to unlock new items for the rest of the DLC.
Molly Trivia
Her hobby is listed as Nature, so when you see her reading a book she’s most likely reading about gardening, animals, or fossils.
