In Minecraft, a “mob” is a being or entity that inhabits the game’s world. By definition, this includes monsters, animals, villagers, and even the player.
Usually, though, when players talk about mobs, they’re referring to the wide variety of animals and monsters that roam the game’s virtual biomes.
This article will go over Minecraft Mob list 2022, from birds and bees to creepers and drowned.
What Exactly Are Mobs in Minecraft?
According to Microsoft, mobs are “beings, or entities, in the Minecraft world.” Just like the player (who is also, technically, a mob), mobs can be enchanted, given items, killed, spawned, and teleported.
The same rules of physics that affect the player also affect mobs, meaning they can fall, drown, and be damaged by environmental hazards (like lava). Some mobs will drop resources upon death, such as items and experience points.
Mobs are naturally generated in Survival mode. The player can spawn mobs in Creative mode, but they cannot attack the player.
The Different Types of Mobs in Minecraft
Mobs can be categorized based on how they behave when they meet a player character: neutral, passive, and aggressive. There are some special cases, but in general, most mobs will fall into one of these categories.
- Neutral mobs will only attack you if you provoke them first.
- Passive mobs will not attack you and will run away when you attack them.
- Aggressive mobs will attack you on sight.
Note that a mob may behave differently toward certain other mobs. For instance, wolves, which are considered neutral mobs, are aggressive toward rabbits and sheep.

You may have noticed that a large number of the mobs in Minecraft are aggressive. If you ever come across a mob type you’ve never seen before, we recommend you keep your distance until you understand which are hostile and which aren’t.
If the diversity of vanilla Minecraft’s bestiary just isn’t enough for you, remember that you can get access to even more mobs and monsters with special mods.
