In Minecraft, there are many different creatures that you can tame. Although unfortunately, Rabbits are not on this list. You cannot tame them and have them follow you around as a wolf would.
However they can still be bred and fed, just like a Fox. So with some temptation of Carrots and perhaps a lead if you’ve got one, you can forcefully walk the rabbit all the way back to your base where you can keep it as a ‘pet’.
In this article, we are going to show you how to tame rabbits in Minecraft, where to find them, and how best to get them home.
What You Need to Tame a Rabbit

How to Tame Rabbits in Minecraft
Step 1. Get your Supplies
Nametags and Leads may only be obtained from Treasure Chests found in Dungeons, Mineshafts, and Buried Treasure.
You need 3 iron blocks and 3 iron ingots to make an anvil.
Experience levels are gained from slaying creatures and from mining/cooking.
5 blocks of wooden planks of any kind and needed to craft a boat.
Carrots can be found in chests around the world or grown with seeds.
Step 2. Rename the Nametag
Place your anvil on the floor, and then right-click it to access its menu.
Add the nametag in the top-left slot and give it a new name – choose whatever name you would for your rabbit.
Step 3. Find a Rabbit
They are usually found in the forest, plains, desert, or snowy biomes.
Step 4. Lure the Rabbit
Once you have found a rabbit, put the carrots in your hand and wait for the rabbit to approach you.
Note: The rabbit needs to be within an 8-block radius for it to ‘smell’ your carrots, or it will not attempt to approach you.
Step 5. Put the Rabbit on a Lead
Now that the rabbit is interested in your carrots and is sitting at your feet, switch to your lead and quickly right-click the rabbit.
You’re going to have to do this very quickly as the rabbit will run away as soon as you take the carrot out of your hand.
Step 6. Name tag the Rabbit
Now that it’s secured with your lead, you want to right-click the rabbit with your name tag so you can prevent it from despawning and give it the name you selected earlier.
Step 7. Take the rabbit home
Move along the terrain and your rabbit will come along with you as it is attached to your lead.
If the lead breaks and the rabbit runs off, just put the carrots back into your hand and let him slowly approach once again. And then put the lead back on him.
Step 7.5. Get across the ocean
If you must go across the sea to return home, place your boat in the water and gently nudge your rabbit into it.
Note: To get him out again, just smash the boat with your fist/sword – be cautious not to hit your rabbit!
Step 8. Keep your rabbit safe
Now that you’re home, you can tie your rabbit to a fence, place him in your home or make him his own little hutch.
