Genshin Impact is truly a wondrous world to explore with a lovable and colorful roster of anime characters inhabiting the region of Teyvat.
But with such an expansive world to explore, some folks may want to adventure through the beautiful landscape with friends!
The problem arises though when you find out your friends only play on PS4, and you only play on Mobile.
The topic of cross-platform play and cross-saves is prevalent in any game that releases across multiple platforms.
And as such, we’re here today to give you the breakdown of everything to do with the question “Is Genshin Impact Cross-Platform & Cross-Save compatible.”
Is Genshin Impact Cross-Platform?
Good news for fans of the Action RPG Gacha hybrid, Yes, Genshin Impact supports Crossplay. This means you can play with friends and gamers on all platforms the game is on.
This includes PC, Mobile (Android/iOS), PS4, and PS5. Now you’ll be able to get into some crazy antics with cross-platform friends, like in the GIF above.
Genshin Impact is fun enough playing by yourself but the ability to play with friends across platforms gives the game longevity.
The integral social elements are a big reason players keep coming back for more.
This also means you don’t have to worry about the game’s life cycle, because people will keep playing as long as there’s new stuff to play with.
Cross-platform means a large & populated player base and ensures a long playthrough with friends.
How to Unlock Crossplay in Genshin Impact
Unlike most other games in the genre, Crossplay isn’t immediately accessible to players. This means you’ll need to reach a certain point in the game before you can play with friends.
Luckily, this point is fairly easy to reach.
To enable multiplayer options, you’ll only need to reach Adventure Rank 16 in the game. Adventure Rank is the in-game progression system that also levels up your World Level which is a separate system.
You’ll reach Adventure Rank 16 relatively easily within the first 2-4 hours of the game depending on what you’re doing.
Defeat enemies, complete Main-Story quests, explore and you’ll reach the level soon enough.
The image above shows I’ve reached the appropriate Adventure Rank for Co-Op Mode, but since there’s a Main-Story Quest I’ve yet to complete, I cannot enable the mode for now.
While we’re on the topic, this is a good way to tell you that cross-platform or normal multiplayer only allows you to do certain quests.
You cannot do Main-Story Quests in Multiplayer. But you can play Co-Op for –
- Free Roam Activities
- Side-Quests
- World Quests
- Bosses
- Domains
Once you reach Adventure Rank 16, you’ll be able to click on the “Co-Op Mode” tile in the menu.
You can then choose from a selection of players (even if you’re not in-game friends) and “Request to join”.
You will then be prompted to choose which characters to bring (2 characters for 2 player parties, 1 character for 3 players & above) and teleport to their world. However, keep in mind you cannot join players with a higher World Level.
But you can reduce your World Level by 1, once you reach World Level 5 to play with friends at a lower World Level. You can make this change only once every 24 hours, so keep that in mind if you’re planning on doing so.
And if you’re thinking “hey, I don’t want to join a random person’s game, I want to play with my friends!”. Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Here’s how to add friends on the same console and for cross-play in Genshin Impact.
How To Add Cross-Platform Friends in Genshin Impact
Once you’ve reached Adventure Level 16 you will gain access to both “Co-Op Mode” & “Friends” tiles. Click on the “Friends” tile and you will be prompted to this screen below –
Click on the icon below the “My Friends” tab and you will reach this screen where you will be able to add friends using their UID.
This code can be found in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen or the Menu screen.
You’ll need to ask your friends to give them your UID code or give them yours but that’s all you need to do. Once both parties have accepted the request, you can start your journey across Teyvat together!
Does Genshin Impact Support Cross-Save?
At the time of writing, PS4/PS5 versions can also transfer account data between Mobile and PC versions of the game. Assuming you use the same email account for your Mobile and PC versions, you’ve already registered for a HoYoLAB account.
The game automatically retrieves account data for devices using the same email. That’s all you need to do to transfer data across platforms and use cross-save.
However, a slight caveat that might cause players some problems; you have one chance to enter the correct email when registering the PS4/PS5 version of the game.
If you accidentally register your PSN account as a new account, you will not be able to sign out and sign in to your original Mobile/PC account.
This happened to me and now, I cannot access my original account on the PS4 version of the game.
After the first time install & logging in make sure you log in with your existing Genshin Impact (miHoYo) email account and do not press Skip.
To undo this is a lengthy process going back and forth with HoYoLAB so you should sign in to the right account the first time around. It’s not impossible, but inconvenient.
