The much-anticipated Genshin Impact 4.0 is on the horizon, promising a wealth of new content, characters, and gameplay mechanics.
The update is set to introduce the new region of Fontaine, along with a host of new characters, Archon Quests, and the intriguing underwater exploration feature. As we approach the third anniversary of this popular action RPG, let’s delve into what we can expect from this major update.
The Countdown to Genshin Impact 4.0
The release of Genshin Impact 4.0 is slated for later this year, with developer HoYoverse and various leaks revealing exciting details about the update. The introduction of Fontaine, the Nation of Justice led by the Hydro Archon, marks a significant milestone in the game’s evolution.
The update follows the 2022 Version 3.0, which introduced the region of Sumeru and the Dendro element, significantly altering the gameplay meta.
Mark Your Calendars: The Release Date
Genshin Impact typically rolls out updates every six weeks, usually on Wednesdays. Given that patch 3.8 was released on July 5, it’s reasonable to speculate that Genshin Impact 4.0 will be released on August 16.
However, this date is yet to be officially confirmed by HoYoverse during the version livestream, expected to occur between August 4 and August 6.
Meet the New Characters
The official teaser trailer for Fontaine confirmed several new characters, including Lyney and Lynette, the magician duo, and their younger brother, Freminet.
Other characters include Navia, a Geo user with elegant Fontaine attire, Wriothesley, Sigewinne, and Arlecchino, one of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers.
Three other Fontaine characters, Clorinde, Furina, and Neuvillette, are expected to play significant roles in the story and may become playable in the future.
Character Banners in Genshin Impact 4.0
While Fontaine will likely introduce dozens of new characters, the character banners in Genshin Impact 4.0 will be more limited. Lyney has been confirmed as a new 5-star hero, while Lynette and Freminet will be added as new 4-star characters.
The first phase of the version will feature Lyney and Yelan as the 5-star characters. The second phase will feature reruns for Tartaglia and Zhongli. The exact 4-star characters with increased drop rates during Phase 1 and Phase 2 are still unknown.
The Arrival of Fontaine
The introduction of Fontaine in Genshin Impact 4.0 will finally allow players to explore the Nation of Justice. Known for its strong judicial system overseen by Neuvillette, Fontaine is a land of Hydro, with water being a constant element throughout the region.
The update will introduce an underwater exploration mechanic, allowing players to control their characters in designated underwater portions of the map. There’s a fan version of Fontaine’s map that you should take a look at as well.
The region’s art and architectural designs are heavily inspired by Belle Époque France and Industrial Revolution England, reflecting its reputation for artistic and technological advancements.
