All Among Us characters appear the same, apart from their color. So, to play it right, players need to know everything about the Among Us character colors. But we aren’t just talking about the color names.
These colors in Among Us are mere cosmetic items. There are theories – myths mostly – associated with different Among Us character colors, and we are going to discuss them right here. For instance, Red is NOT sus just because Red’s, well, Red!
So, this isn’t just an Among Us color guide, this is an Among Us culture guide that tells you a lot about the community as well.
All Among Us Character Colors
Before we talk about the Among Us character colors, let’s take a trip down memory lane.
Among Us came out in June 2018, and it only had 10 colors at that time. Then in October 2019, the devs added 2 new colors (Lime & Cyan)- the brightest colors of Among Us to date.
Then came the 3rd-anniversary content update that brought about the much anticipated 15-player lobbies (and a handful of other features).
To complement the 15-player lobbies, the devs decided to add 6 new colors as well.
And so, the total is now up to 18. Here is a list of all 18 Among Us character colors:
- Red
- Blue
- Green
- Pink
- Orange
- Yellow
- Black
- White
- Purple
- Brown
- Cyan – Added in 2019!
- Lime – Added in 2019!
- Maroon – New!
- Rose – New!
- Banana – New!
- Gray – New!
- Tan – New!
- Coral – New!
The first 10 are the OG colors that Among Us first released with.
Trivia: The Black Among Us character color was called Gray at first. Later on, it was changed to Black when Gray was added as a separate color.
Among Us Character Colors – Myths & Facts
And now begins the myth-busting.
Choosing a certain Among Us character color does not affect the game whatsoever. It doesn’t matter what color you choose, the game randomly decides who gets to be the Impostor and who becomes a Crewmate.
The same goes for newly added roles, i.e., Engineer, Scientist, Guardian Angel, and Shapeshifter.
However, thanks to the various Among Us memes all over the internet, people actually believe that choosing a specific color can increase their chances of becoming an Impostor or a Crewmate.
You know very well what color we’re talking about.
The Eternal Impostor
The most popular Among Us myth – the Red Among Us character is always the Impostor. Sometimes Cyan gets reeled into this conversation, but Red is the center of attention.
However, it’s not true. Choosing Red or Cyan does not increase your chances of becoming the Impostor.
All Among Us character colors have the same odds of getting a Crewmate or Impostor role.
The Main Crewmate
Just as there are colors associated with always being the Impostor, there are colors that have been declared to be Crewmate, almost always.
Orange and Green Among Us character colors are deemed to be a Crewmate almost every time.
There is no logical explanation for this label. Just because Green and Orange are portrayed as Crewmates in the Discuss animation, it doesn’t mean they are always innocent.
The odds of Green chopping you in half are the same as Red shooting you in the head.
The Noob
No one knows where or why this myth originated but it must have fooled a lot of people. The myth we are talking about is the Pink Among Us character colors being the top choice of noobs.
Apparently, Pink is the most innocent Among Us character color, one that rarely ever becomes an Impostor. And even as a Crewmate, Pink won’t get much done, for whatever reason it might be.
However, everyone knows White is the most innocent-looking.
Let us emphasize “innocent-looking” and not innocent. They have the same odds of being the alien parasite as other Among Us character colors.
Olive The Rejected
Now, this is a fun little trivia that every Among Us player should know. While deciding on the 6 new colors to be added along with the 15-player lobby update, Innersloth held a vote on the official Discord server.
Fans had to choose between Olive and Carol, and well we all know the result. Maybe the next time the devs need more color they won’t disrespect Olive like this.
Most Popular Among Us Character Colors
Innersloth has released the popularity rankings of all 18 Among Us character colors on the official Among Us Twitter.
And the ranking only goes to show that players believe plenty of the myths associated with the Among Us character colors.
Here are the official rankings. No prizes for guessing who’s first.

- Rose
- Blue
- Cyan
- Yellow
- Pink
- Purple
- Orange
- Banana

The color associated with Impostor is the most popular choice for Among Us players. New addition Rose is a surprise at 4th, beating old colors like Yellow, Purple, and even Green.
And with that, we close out our Among Us character colors guide.
The 18 colors are merely cosmetic, just like Among Us hats, skins, and visors! So, instead of wasting your time trying and failing to get Impostor, enjoy the game in whatever role you get.
And if you only want to play as Impostor, we will never suggest you hack Among Us.
