Mona Megistus in Genshin Impact is one of the most recognizable characters from the franchise. She’s also a very talented mage and can prove useful in many different team comps thanks to her skills.
And that’s what we’re here to do today, we’ll be going over everything there is to know about Mona in Genshin Impact.
We’ll check out the best playstyles, her move-set, and optimal builds, and give you the lowdown on her Ascension Materials requirements as well as how to get her in-game.
Let’s get started by going over her Talent sheet and playstyle!
Talents & Playstyle
Mona is a versatile character and can function in a variety of roles, but her main playstyle revolves around debuffs, disrupting, and crowd control.
She has a Hydro Elemental affinity and uses the Catalyst weapon type. On our Genshin Impact Tier List, Mona has an S-Tier rank, making her a powerful mage with a lot of potentials.
Normal & Charged Attack – Ripple of Fate
Mona’s Normal Attack allows her to cast a 4-combo water burst attack, dealing Hydro Damage.
Her Charged Attack consumes a portion of her stamina and unleashes an AoE Hydro DMG spell.
Since Mona’s Normal & Charged Attack does Hydro DMG rather than Physical DMG, it’s a great way to trigger Elemental Reactions.
Elemental Skill – Mirror Reflection of Doom
Mona’s Elemental Skill, Mirror Reflection of Doom, conjures an illusory Phantom of Fate made of watersprouts.
The Phantom of Fate does a few things when summoned. It taunts enemies, diverting their attention to the Phantom rather than Mona.
It also continuously causes Hydro DMG to enemies in range and once the duration is over, it explodes, causing AoE Hydro DMG.
Holding her Elemental Skill will teleport Mona backward while simultaneously conjuring Phantom of Fate in the location the skill was activated.
Elemental Burst – Stellaris Phantasm
Mona’s Elemental Burst, Stellaris Phantasm, summons waves of water to recreate a starry sky. This applies the Illusory Bubble status effect to enemies within a fairly large AoE.
Illusory Bubble has a few effects on enemies caught up in the attack.
It makes them Wet, smaller enemies are stunned/immobilized, and an additional status effect, Omen, is applied to enemies who are attacked within the Illusory Bubble.
Enemies attacked in the Bubble remove the Illusory Bubble and deals Hydro Elemental DMG. Omen increases damage taken from enemies.
Alternate Sprint – Illusory Torrent
Mona is one of the few characters in Genshin Impact with an Alternate Sprint. Mona’s sprint, Illusory Torrent, cloaks her with water and allows her to move rapidly on land while consuming stamina.
This also works on water, making it a great exploration sprint to travel quickly across water bodies.
Overall, Mona’s kit is versatile and allows her to play several roles. She can wreak havoc with a lot of Elemental Reaction damage while saving her team from attacks by stunning or taunting enemies.
There’s a lot you can do with Mona but to properly utilize everything she has to offer, here’s how you should build her.
Mona Genshin Impact Build
Mona’s Talent sheet allows her to play several roles. She can cause significant damage as a Main DPS, cause huge Elemental Reaction damage as a Sub-DPS, or she can Support her team with stuns and taunts.
However, I’d recommend building her as a hybrid Sub-DPS/Support role as the two are closely related considering her Talents. Therefore, we’ll be focusing on increasing ATK%, Elemental Mastery, and Hydro Damage.
For sub-stats, you can opt to increase Crits, ATK%, or Energy Recharge.
Primary Weapon Choice – The Widsith
The Widsith is one of the best weapons for Mona in the Support/Sub-DPS role. It takes full advantage of switching in and out of the field, enhancing the efficacy of the buffs.
The Widsith is unique in the sense that the effects are randomly gained. Once Mona is switched into the field, she’ll gain a ‘theme song’. Three different songs have varying effects:
- Recitative: ATK +60%
- Aria: All Elemental DMG +48%
- Interlude: Elemental Mastery +240
While the effects are random, making it hard to receive the buff you want, they’re all equally effective and useful for Mona as a Support/Sub-DPS hybrid. Increasing ATK and Elemental DMG are obvious, meaning she’ll do more damage from attacks of either kind.
Elemental Mastery increases the power of Elemental Reactions and how much damage it does. Since Mona can effectively cause Elemental Reactions, this is a high-tier skill.
In some way or the other, the weapon will enhance how much damage Mona can deal. You can imagine how devastating Mona would be with all these buffs added to her already impressive Talent sheet.
The good thing is, the weapon is a 4-star rarity so it’s easier to find from Wishes. But if you were still missing the weapon though, here are some excellent alternatives.
Substitute Weapons
- Skyward Atlas: Elemental DMG Bonus +12%. Normal Attacks have a 50% chance to receive Favor of the Clouds, dealing 160% ATK DMG to auto-tracked nearby enemies.
- Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers: Switching characters buffs ATK by 24% for 10s to the new active character.
- Mappa Mare: Causing Elemental Reaction provides +8% Elemental DMG Bonus.
Artifact Build
Mona’s Artifact Build should focus on increasing Energy Recharge, Elemental Burst DMG, or Hydro DMG. Sub-stats should increase Elemental Mastery, Hydro DMG, ATK%, or Crits.
- Emblem of Severed Fate: Energy Recharge +20%
- Noblesse Oblige: Elemental Burst DMG +20%
- Heart of Depth: Hydro DMG +15%
You can either focus on a full 4-set piece bonus for either Emblem of Severed Fate and Noblesse Oblige or use both for dual 2-piece set bonuses of +20% Energy Recharge & Elemental Burst DMG.
