This guide is going to focus on everything Eevee. I’ll explain how to evolve all Eevees in Pokemon GO and how to ensure that you get your favorite Eeveelution.
Towards the end, I’ll also talk about which Eevee evolutions are the most competitively viable, for those of you that enjoy the GO Battle League.
Pokemon GO Eevee Name Trick
There is a little trick in Pokemon GO that lets you get the exact Eevee you want, without any extra steps or dice rolls involved.
- Collect your Eevee Candies as usual
- Give your Eevee a nickname (Specified in the chart below)
- Evolve your Eevee
It’s that simple.
Note: This name trick is usable once per Eeveelution. So if you want a Shiny evolution, then you may want to hold off on evolving the first Eevee you come across.

Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon
Now the name trick can only be used once per Eeveelution. So you’ll need to grind a bit to evolve your Eevee.
Pokemon GO Eevee evolutions do not require stones, like in the games. Instead, for the Gen 1 evolutions, you simply use your Eevee candies and your Eevee will evolve randomly into one of the three.
How to Evolve Eevee into Espeon or Umbreon
Espeon and Umbreon are similar to the original games, but require a little bit of work.
Save up 25 Eevee candies and follow these steps to evolve your Eevee to an Espeon or Umbreon in Pokemon GO:
- Assign Eevee as your Buddy
- Walk 10km with that Eevee as your Buddy
- Evolve Eevee during the day for Espeon
- Evolve Eevee at night for Umbreon
Glaceon and Leafeon
In order to get Glaceon and Leafeon, you’re going to need some gold. There are two lures in the shop that cost 200 coins each; the Glacial Lure and the Mossy Lure.
Evolving an Eevee within the radius of one a Glacial Lure will allow it to evolve into a Glaceon. While evolving the Eevee inside of a Mossy Lure’s radius will turn it into a Leafeon
Note: You do not have to be the one who used the lure in order to evolve your Eevee in its radius!
How to get Sylveon in Pokemon GO
In order to evolve your Eevee into Sylveon, you’ll need to first obtain 70 Buddy Hearts. Once you have 70 Buddy Hearts, simply evolve your Eevee and it will transform into Sylveon.
How to get Buddy Hearts in Pokemon GO:
- Feed your Pokemon Berries
- Take Pictures with your Pokemon
- Pet and Play with your Pokemon
- Take your Pokemon into Battle
Which is the Highest CP Eevee Evolution
How competitive your Eeveelution is will depend on its moveset, and who it faces in battle. Generally speaking, Vaporeon is the best Eeveelution for competition and has the highest CP of the Eeveelutions.
