Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is well on its way to become the 3rd highest-selling Pokemon game at 23 million units sold.
With the upcoming 2-part DLC release, Pokemon SV may overtake Pokemon Red, Green & Blue currently sitting at 32 mill.
Nintendo has done a ‘good’ job with Pokemon SV – sorting out bugs and releasing cool extension content to keep SV alive and kicking well above its weight in a tough open-world RPG market where everything’s, right now, all about Starfield.
But SV is here to stay and have a long run at it. Let’s take a good look at all there is to this Pokemon SV DLC.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Release Date
The Teal Mask release date is on 13th September 2023. That’s the first of the two-part DLC – The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.
The second part is the Indigo Disk which is slated to release later in 2023 but there’s no official date stamp on it yet.
Nintendo is playing this smart, releasing a new DLC in 2 parts but just a few months apart. This way, they can gauge fan and player response to tweak part 2 of the DLC. And with the time at hand, they can even make a few changes to it.
Pokemon SV DLC: News
In The Teal Mask, you will finally make your way beyond Paldea for a school trip to Kitakami led by their teacher.
With the release coming up in a few days, Nintendo did open up a portion of the game to select Japanese tabloids, like Famitsu.
And from what I gather, there’s a lot of new stuff added to this Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC that’s not in the base games.
First up, we get much better high-res (and contrast) graphics. There’s almost a shine to everything. The open world has a lot more details in it and looks miles ahead of the base game.
New Pokemon will start showing up early and the open world is plentifully littered with easy pickings all along the way. But there are a few legendaries and DLC exclusives out there and I’ll pick up on them later. Read on.
Chances are regions are inspired by the Sinnoh regions from Pokemon Arceus but that’s unconfirmed speculation.
Coming to the Pokemon, The Teal Mask Pokedex will include more than 200 Pokemon from previous generations.
We’ll get new moves too –
Here’s all the new Pokemon that will get these moves.
Thanks to the early info releases, I can safely say that this Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC already looks like a win, at least on paper.
The Teal Mask: All Things New
There’s a lot speculatively added into this DLC and most of it is centered around Blueberry Academy which is where you’re on a joint school trip supervised by Ms. Briar.
Pokemon SV was always supposed to be better than all previous Pokemon games courtesy of its open-world gameplay. But with this expansive DLC, we are finally getting the full drift of it.
There are a lot of returning Pokemon which means The Teal Mask Pokedex might have close to 250 Pokemon by the time it releases. Check this for all new Pokemon in Scarlet and Violet..
Your key battles will be against the top trainers, whom you will encounter as you level up the BB League = Blueberry Academy’s in-house Pokemon battle ranking league.
We also get a glimpse into ‘Paradox’ forms of Cobalion and Raikou and they look scary good.
I’m waiting for the game release to catch a Bloodmoon Ursaluna. This is a game-exclusive form of Ursaluna with a powerful new move up its sleeve and a different look as well. What makes it special is there’s no way to evolve it into this form, so I’ll need to catch it. And I think Bloodmoon Ursaluna will play a part in the storyline.
This Pokemon SV DLC also will bring a bunch of new TMs with it, just what the fans wanted. Here’s all about the new TMs in The Teal Mask.
Another big change coming with this DLC is the ability to don new avatars and cosmetics. No more just school uniforms although the Blueberry Uniform does look nice.
But you’ll get a whole new pack of outfits right from the DLC and that’s confirmed. Here’s how that’s going to turn out –
These uniforms are based on the four seasons in the year. There’s even rumors about the DLC doing even more by adding a Outfit Customization store in a dedicated customization shop – the Kitakami Centre. Although I can’t confirm that, there’s no smoke without fire. Fingers crossed.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC: All Returning Pokemon
The number of Pokemon returning to the Teal Mask is still in speculation. But since the Paladea Pokedex has 296 Pokemon, we should get close to it.
Pokefans have referred to this image above as The Teal Mask Pokedex.
Overall, there’s a high chance we’ll have at least 230 Pokemon in Teal Mask returning from previous games and generations. Here’s all about returning Pokemon in The Teal Mask
The total number of returning Pokemon may just shoot through the roof with the Indigo Disk, that’s part 2 of this Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Characters
Two key characters we’ll come across early in the game are the siblings Kieran and Carmine.
Kieran is the shy and receptive younger brother to the hard-hearted and protective sister in Carmine. Kieran will remind you of the fan-favorite Natural Harmonia Gropius from Pokemon Black and White. But while N was compassionate for Pokemon and not so for humans, Kieran seems sensitive for both so a difference right there. Perhaps Kieran’s character is only to complement that of Carmine or rather the opposite. Either way, we already have a great starting duo.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Preorder Bonus
The first preorder bonus you get is the New Uniform Set. That’s the set of 4 seasonal uniforms I’ve already talked about up top.
There’s another preorder bonus.
Purchase the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC (The Teal Mask) before 31st October and get the Hisuan Zoroark.
This Hisuan form of the Zoroark is worth adding to your Pokemon SV Pokedex. It’s the first Hisui Pokemon in this Gen IX release, a fan favorite from Pokemon Arceus. And it comes with a special move, Happy Hour, which doubles earnings from battles and activities. That can be a big boost for players who’d like to max everything out before the Indigo Disk release date, which is unconfirmed yet.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC Price
The best place to buy Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC is right from Nintendo.
You can buy The Teal Mask either for Scarlet or Violet or both if you have both the base games. The same DLC pack won’t work for the other game. So, if you buy The Teal Mask for Scarlet, you need to buy it separately for Violet. In both cases, you need to have the base games available as well.
Here are your buy links right on Nintendo –
Pokemon Scarlet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero
Pokemon Violet: The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero
The DLC bundle is priced at $34.99.
I’d suggest you Preorder The Teal Mask and max it out before The Indigo Disc hits preorder.
