Beidou in Genshin Impact is a badass pirate captain and is a fantastic character to play. She’s also (probably) ranked as one of the coolest-designed characters in the entire game. But does she have what it takes to be on your team?
Today, we’ll show you everything there is to know about Beidou in Genshin Impact. We’ll check out her Talents and give you some tips about her playstyle. We’ll also show you one of the best builds for her move-set along with some tidbits of lore.
Let’s get started with her Talents.
Beidou Genshin Impact Build: Talents & Playstyle
Beidou is a talented character that excels at causing swift damage while keeping herself and the party alive with shields. She’s a Claymore weapon user and has Electro Elemental affinity.
On our Genshin Impact Tier List, Beidou is an A-Tier character which means she’s good enough to hold her own, but there are better characters in her role.
Normal & Charged Attack – Oceanborne
Beidou’s Normal Attack is a 5-hit combo that is pretty quick for a Claymore user.
Holding her Charged Attack drains stamina continuously and performs consecutive swings until her stamina is fully exhausted. The last hit in the combo deals extra damage.
Most of Beidou’s Talents augment her Normal/Charged Attacks to be more powerful. It’s a core skill and a priority for the build so keep this in mind when playing with Beidou in Genshin Impact.
Elemental Skill – Tidecaller
Beidou’s Elemental Skill is a reactive skill that has two variants:
Pressing the Skill swings her blade charged with lightning and deals Electro Damage.
Holding the Skill has Beidou lift her blade to function as a shield.
This shield’s damage absorption is scaled to her Max HP. Enemy hits to the shield are absorbed and stored as Energy, after which the Energy is released back and deals Electro Damage to enemies within range.
This damage scales to how many hits the shield absorbs. Damage Bonus is maxed out after the shield absorbs at least two hits.
The shield also imbues Electro on Beidou’s Claymore and can absorb Electro +250% more efficiently.
Elemental Burst – Stormbreaker
Beidou’s Elemental Burst deals Electro damage to enemies surrounding her.
It also conjures Thunderbeast’s Targe to surround her and doesn’t end once she’s switched out. Thunderbeat’s Targe has two distinct effects:
- Normal/Charged Attacks create a lighting bolt that damages one enemy and travels to nearby enemies. Damage dealt in this manner is considered Electro Damage.
- Increases resistance to interruption and mitigates damage received.
Beidou’s Talent sheet is full of defensive & counter skills that give her shields to defend and while dealing high Electro Damage.
To get the best damage with her Elemental Skill, you need to be close enough for an enemy to attack you and for you to attack back with a counter. Allow enemies to finish attack patterns while you have the shield up, and then release the damage back to them.
Her Elemental Burst is effective in causing significant Electro damage and reactions while protecting the active character. This is especially potent against Electro damage dealing enemies.
Additionally, she has a passive Talent that decreases stamina drain when swimming by 20%. This affects the whole party and is active even when Beidou is not on-field. The Passive Talent makes her well-suited for Exploration and long swims across bodies of water.
She can also easily set up and cause Elemental Reactions with Electro, so she’s a dependable Sub-DPS. But her Skill and Burst are powerful only when used correctly.
You’ll need to change your playstyle to take advantage of everything Beidou has to offer. Playing defensively and waiting for the right moment to use her Elemental Skill is key to the build.
Genshin Impact Beidou Build
Beidou is predominantly a damage dealer and can function as either your Main DPS or Sub-DPS role. However, her skills are more suited to the Sub-DPS role for which she’s ranked A-Tier.
Therefore, her build focuses on increasing Electro Damage, Attack/Attack%, Energy Recharge, and Elemental Burst Damage. This is meant to optimize her damage potential and frequency of Bursts and Elemental Skills.
Primary Weapon Choice – Wolf’s Gravestone
Wolf’s Gravestone is an excellent weapon choice for Beidou which focuses on increasing her Attack stat as much as possible. The weapon has a Bonus Effect of +10.8% ATK.
Wolf’s Gravestone’s skill grants a base +20% ATK increase, separate from the Bonus Effect’s buff.
Additionally, when hitting enemies below 30% HP, Beidou receives a party buff that grants +40% ATK lasting 12 seconds. This buff can only be granted once every 30 seconds.
You can check the GIF above for reference on how to activate the skill and what it looks like in-game.
In total, Wolf’s Gravestone grants a base +30.8% ATK increase with an additional +40% ATK from the buff.
It’s fairly easy to activate the buff by damaging low-level mobs until they’re under 30% HP, and then focusing buffed attacks on bosses/high-level enemies.
Beidou’s kit is already optimized around her Normal/Charged attacks rather than Elemental Damage. This increase to Attack paired with Electro infusion with her Elemental Skill and Burst gives her excellent damage potential.
But if you’re missing out on the weapon, here are some great alternatives.
Substitute Weapons
- Skyward Pride – All DMG +8%. Normal & Charged Attacks/Elemental Burst has an 80% chance to summon a vacuum blade after hitting an enemy. Vacuum Blade does 80% of the total Attack as damage. Duration is 20 seconds or eight vacuum blade attacks.
- The Unforged – Shield Strength +20%. Landing hits on enemies grants a +4% Attack increase. Lasts 8 seconds and max 5 stacks. Occurs once every 0.3 seconds. When shielded, ATK buffs increased by +100%.
- Serpent Spine – Every 4 seconds as an on-field character grants +6% DMG dealt and +3% DMG taken. Max 5 stacks and resets by 1 stack when taking damage.
Artifact Build
There are a few ways to build her Artifact loadout but mainly you’ll need to increase Energy Recharge, Elemental Burst Damage, ATK%, or Electro Damage. Sub-stats can include ATK%, Energy Recharge, or Electro Damage Bonus.
- Emblem of Severed Fate – (2-Piece) +20% Energy Recharge / (4-Piece) +25% Elemental Burst Damage scaled from total Energy Recharge. Max 75% DMG buff from this instance.
- Gladiator’s Finale – (2-Piece) +18% ATK / (4-Piece) Polarm, Sword & Claymore users +35% Normal ATK DMG.
- Thundering Fury – (2-Piece) + 15% Electro Damage Bonus / (4-Piece) +40% Overloaded, Superconduct, Electro-Charged reaction DMG. When activated, decreases Elemental Skill Cooldown by 1 second and can occur once every 0.4 seconds.
The best setup here would be a 4-piece Emblem of Severed Fate set to increase Energy Recharge and Burst Damage. To take advantage of this buff, you should focus on increasing Energy Recharge on her Artifact sub-stats to increase the Burst Damage buff.
Doing so will also allow Beidou to perform Elemental Bursts more often, so it’s a win-win situation. But the other two Artifact sets mentioned are also great to use and can serve as alternatives or a substitute if you’re missing Emblem of Severed Fate.
