Jean in Genshin Impact is one of the first major characters we meet in the story. She’s also an integral part of the World’s lore, so it’s safe to say she’s relevant in the Genshin Impact power rankings.
And even though she’s one of the earliest released characters, she’s still got plenty to offer team compositions. So that’s why today, we’re going to show you everything you need to know about Jean in Genshin Impact.
We’ll go over her Talents and the best playstyles to match her roles, as well as some Weapon and Artifact builds that compliment them nicely.
Let’s first go over her Talent sheet to get a better understanding of what she has to offer.
Talents & Playstyle of Jean in Genshin Impact
Jean is a versatile character in Genshin Impact and can function in either a Sub-DPS or Support role. Her skills favor the Support healer role, making it the optimal playstyle for Jean in your team comps.
Jean has Anemo Elemental Affinity and uses a Sword weapon type. On our tier list, she ranks high cinching an S-Tier ranking for her Support role.
She has a lot to offer teams, especially in terms of healing with her powerful Elemental Burst. The rest of her skills are built to disrupt crowds by launching or blasting them away so she functions well in either scenario.
Normal & Charged Attack – Favonious Bladework
Jean’s Normal Attack is a 5-hit combo with her sword that launches smaller enemies backward on the 5th hit.
Jean’s Charged Attack is a great disruptor for crowd control.
Using this attack will cost some stamina and launch an enemy up in the air with wind. Enemies will then slowly fall to the ground after a few seconds. Besides being a cool-looking skill, it’s also effective to manage group fights.
Do note that some enemies won’t be affected by the skill because they’re too large.
Elemental Skill – Gale Blade
Jean’s Elemental Skill has her shooting out a gust of powerful wind from the tip of her blade, causing significant Anemo Damage and launching enemies back.
Holding the Elemental Skill continuously drains her stamina meter and charges up Gale Blade.
This also results in a Blackhole effect where it pulls nearby enemies towards Jean’s blade, and once released launches enemies back and causes significant Anemo Damage.
Jean’s Elemental Skill is powerful and fun to use. It’s useful because you can group enemies for a concentrated attack and can be a conduit for heavy Elemental Reaction Damage.
Elemental Burst – Dandelion Breeze
Jean’s Elemental Burst, Dandelion Breeze, summons a swirling AoE Dandelion Field. This launches enemies around the Burst radius and causes Anemo Damage.
Once activated, Jean also instantly regens a large portion of HP for nearby allies and all party members. HP regen from this method scales with Jean’s total ATK.
The Dandelion Field created on Burst proc acts in two ways: It continuously heals HP for the active character and imbues Anemo Elemental. Secondly, the field deals Anemo Damage to enemies inside the field and when they enter/exit.
From her Talent sheet, we can tell that Jean is a versatile and super useful character who can fill multiple roles. She is mainly regarded for her Support role with her Elemental Burst healing, but her crowd control capability is just as potent.
She can deal massive Anemo Damage while keeping enemies in check with her Charged Attack and Elemental Skill crowd control. Get hit too often and she can heal herself and the whole party while summoning an additional passive healing spell.
To fully take advantage of these skills though, you need to keep a few things in mind.
Jean Genshin Impact Build
Jean should be played predominantly as a Support/Healer so that’s going to be our focus today.
She can Sub-DPS but since other characters can do that role, and better, the Support role is where she shines best.
Her optimal build revolves around increasing ATK and Anemo Damage. Alternatively, you can opt for Artifacts/Weapons that increase the Healing bonus, Energy Regen, and Crits. Jean’s healing scales with ATK so that should be your priority.
Primary Weapon Choice – Freedom Sworn
Freedom Sworn is an excellent weapon for Jean in the Support role thanks to the sword’s innate abilities. The Weapon Skill, Revolutionary Chorale increases ATK damage by 10%.
Freedom Sworn also provides a Sigil of Rebellion once every 0.5 seconds and can be triggered even when Jean is not the active character.
Once 2 Sigils are attained, they will be consumed and all party members receive a +20% ATK and +16% Normal/Charged/Pluging ATK damage for 12 seconds.
Freedom Sworn boosts Jean’s ATK by quite a bit and can be great for party buffs even when she isn’t active. This makes a versatile support weapon that can boost everything Jean has to offer already.
If you were missing the weapon though, here are some great alternatives.
Substitute Weapons
- Primordial Jade Cutter – +20% Max HP & ATK Bonus 1.2% of Max HP.
- Skyward Blade – +4% Crit Rate. Casting Elemental Burst causes Skypiercing Might that boost: +10% Movement/ATK SPD & +20% Normal/Charged Attack DMG for 12 seconds.
- Amenoma Kageuchi – Casting Elemental Skill gives 1 Succession Seed. Max 3 stacks lasting for 30 seconds each. After Burst, Seeds consumed to regen 6 Energy per Seed.
Artifact Build
Jean’s Artifacts should focus on increasing ATK%, Anemo DMG, or Flat ATK. For her sub-stats, you can focus on the same core stats or Energy Recharge & Crits.
- Viridescent Venerer – (4-Piece Set) Anemo DMG +15% / Swirl DMG +60% & Decreases enemy Elemental Resistance to Element that caused Swirl.
- Gladiator’s Finale – (4-Piece Set) +18% ATK / Sword, Claymore & Polearm users gain +45% Normal ATK DMG.
- The Exile – (4-Piece Set) Energy Recharge +20% / Elemental Burst regens 2 energy for the whole party every 2 seconds for 6s.
Your best choice is maxing out Anemo DMG with Viridescent Venerer but if you want to focus a little extra stats on ATK and Healing, go with Gladiator’s Finale.
How to Get Jean in Genshin Impact
Jean is featured in the Wanderlust Invocation banner which hasn’t been featured with her up-rate since the game’s release. She is in the pool though so you’ll need to try your luck with Wish summons.
Considering the drop rate, I would proceed with caution and advise not to go overboard with wishes.
