Genshin Impact players went crazy when Il Dottorre first appeared in the game’s lore because he’s so dashingly handsome. But, are his dastardly evil looks all he has? Is there more to the story?
Today we’re checking out everything there is to know about Il Dottorre in Genshin Impact from official lore and facts, to potential theories about his appearance in the game, and more!
First, we’ll go over his background and showcase what we do know about Il Dottorre.
Who is Il Dottorre?
Il Dottorre, or “The Doctor” is a part of the notorious Eleven Fatui Harbingers, who are the upper echelon of the Fatui organization and Cryo Archon Tsaritsa’s lieutenants. But Il Dottorre has never actually appeared in Genshin Impact just yet.
Dottorre was first introduced in the official Genshin Impact Manga in Chapter 1: Bad Wine.
We’ll go into more detail about the Manga and his backstory in the Manga below. The official Manga from mihoYo is set as a prelude to current events in the game. It’s a good mechanism for Genshin’s lore so check it out if you’re into that.
There is a description from the Wise Doctor’s Pinion Artifact, part of the Pale Flame set that describes the supposed backstory of Dottorre. The description of the Artifact chronicles the story of a Youth who had grandiose, grotesque ideas.
He shows no remorse and thinks of humans as ‘machines’ which he wanted to enhance to create the most powerful, ‘enhanced humans’ that even rival the Gods.
There is also mention of the power of Visions and how they’re not integral to a human’s actual power. This sets a backdrop to Dottorre’s idealogy of Visions and the people who wielded such power.
He was eventually cast out from his village for his blasphemous and heinous idealogy, and eventually entered the Sumeru Academia where he continued his research.
Even in the Academia, he’s branded a heretic for his ideas and research.
But he stayed his hand to avoid the risk of expulsion as he needed a place to conduct his research. Eventually, the First Fatui, believed to be Pierro The Jester, tracked him down and offered him a place in the Fatui.
Pierro promises to allow his research into enhanced humans and continue to conceptualize and realize a human with the power of a God. He was then granted the title Il Dottore, which he found to be ironic, and chuckled hysterically at the thought.
This backstory sets a dangerous, and maniacal precedent for the way Il Dottorre thinks and his experimentations. While it isn’t explicitly mentioned in the Wise Doctor’s Pinion Artifact that it’s describing Dottore, based on what we know, all fingers point to him.
With this, we now know his origin story and just how heinous he truly is. To cement this fact, Genshin Impact’s Manga showcases his ideologies and how dangerous he truly is.
Il Dottorre’s First Appearance in Genshin Impact Lore
Il Dottorre is first introduced in Chapter 1: Bad Win of the Genshin Impact manga and comes to Mondstadt to find new subjects for his experiments. After his failed experiment, Krupp recalls an invitation to Mondstadt and suggests going to “collect more wares”.
The two then reach Diluc’s soiree and looks for the Seneschal of the Church of Mondstadt to conduct a meeting. He is then introduced as Krupp’s master, one of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, and the man who defeated Ursa the Drake in Mondstadt.
As they’re indebted to the Fatui, they have no choice but to listen to his request.
In the meeting, Krupp explains they’re looking to recruit people “Faithful” to The Seven. Kaeya quickly retorts by saying it’s a “blood tax” for the children of Mondstadt.
Eventually, an “Assassin” that looks awfully like Diluc attacks Krupp to find out what Dottorre is doing with “recruits” from Mondstadt. But as he’s about the speak, Krupp is dealt a fatal blow by Dottorre himself.
He mentions he’s interested in the Assasin’s Vision, and eventually withdraws all requests to the Seneschal and leaves Mondstadt. The story continues with his dastardly plans but that would take far too long to recall.
The important part about this story is that Dottorre is truly an evil dude who thinks only of realizing his research on Enhanced Humans. He will stop at nothing to achieve it and will sacrifice anyone’s life without a second thought.
We also learn that he’s probably not a Vision wielder himself as we can see his disdain for Visions and their Wielders in the manga. He thinks of them as “self-inflated tools” rather than being blessed by the Gods.
We now know Dottorre’s true intentions and how he perceives Vision wielders.
Dottore in Genshin Impact
Besides the descriptions and Manga, there isn’t much we know about Dottore in the game itself. However, in Tartaglia’s Story Quest Mighty Cyclop’s Adventure!, we find mention of Dottore in the game for the first time.
Tartaglia brings his brother, Teucer, to the “Institute of Toy Research” that’s actually a research facility Dottore created to research Ruin Guards and creatures from the Abyss.
Dottorre eventually left the facility as he was no longer interested in Ruin Guards. The factory, however, was still functional and was creating Ruin Guards to terrorize Liyue in the surrounding area.
This is another clear example of Dottore’s insatiable need for power and his blatant disregard for his actions. He’s also alluded to being the one who modified and enhanced Scaramouche, the 6th Fatui Harbinger.
Can You Play Dottorre in Genshin Impact?
Based on what we know about Dottore, we think it’s highly unlikely he will make it as a playable character in Genshin Impact. He’s simply too evil to be a mainstay character in the game.
He could appear as a villain in a storyline, but as far as being able to play Dottorre, it seems too far-fetched an idea for now.
But Genshin may eventually introduce him so we’ll have to wait and see.
And, we’ve reached the end of our investigation into the notorious Dottore and hopefully, you’ve learned a little more about the dastardly villain. But we wanna know what you guys think. Is Dottorre truly evil or simply misunderstood?
