Potions are an important part of any Minecraft gear setup, as they can give you the edge in combat or make exploring your world a little bit easier.

In this guide, we are going to cover how to make a weakness potion in Minecraft, as well as the splash variant of the potion so it can be thrown at your enemies to lower their attack damage by 0.5.

What You Need to Make a Weakness Potion

    • 1x Fermented Spider Eye
    • 1x Water Bottle (can use up to 3 per brew)
    • 1x Brewing Stand
    • 1x Blaze Powder

How to Make a Weakness Potion Minecraft

Step 1. Start by placing your brewing stand wherever you want, and then right-click it to access the brewing menu.

Step 2. Put some blaze powder in the upper left of the menu, this will power it. You’ll know you’ve done this correctly as a bar in the menu will turn to orange.

Step 3. Place up to 3 bottles of water in the bottom section of the brewing menu.

    Place 3 bottles of water

Step 4. Then, place the fermented spider eye at the very top of the brewing menu, and it should begin brewing.

Step 5. Wait a little bit for it to brew.

Step 6. Done! You should now have 3 potions of weakness that you can collect from the brewing menu.

Congratulations, you have just created the standard version of a potion of weakness.

Right now, you can only drink the potion for it to take effect, and since the effect is negative (it reduces your attack damage by 0.5) it is not very useful.

However, you can turn it into a throwable variation using the steps below.

How to Throw a Potion of Weakness?

Brewing is important in Minecraft. Potions of weakness are very useful in combat, but the standard version (the one we’ve just taught you how to make) cannot be thrown, it can only be drunk.

To be able to throw it, you need to convert it to its splash variant, this can be done by following the steps below:

What You Need to Make a Splash Potion of Weakness

    • Potion of Weakness (up to 3 per brew)
    • 1x Gunpowder

Step 2. Make sure the brewing stand is powered, if not, place some blaze powder in the top left section to power it.

Step 3. Now, place your potion(s) of weakness in the bottom section of the brewing stand.

Step 4. Place a piece of gunpowder at the top of the menu.

Step 5. After about 30 seconds, your potions should now convert to splash potions of weakness.

Step 6. Now, you can throw your potions whenever you please by holding them in your hand and right-clicking!

Is there a way to extend the duration of a weakness potion?

Yes! Potions of weakness are a useful item to have, and they are even better if they last for longer. Using a piece of Redstone, you can extend the duration of the effect from 1:30min to 4:00min!
