Barbara in Genshin Impact may seem like your typical Anime idol character, but she’s more than that. She’s one of the top-ranked healers in the game and even with the stereotypical idol aesthetic, she’s a force to be reckoned with.
And today, we’ll be checking out everything there is to know about Barbara’s Build in Genshin Impact, her Talents, and Playstyle to find the most optimal way to play her.
To start things off, let’s check out her Talent sheet.
Barbara in Genshin Impact: Talents & Playstyle
Barbara is a top-tier healer in Genshin Impact. The caveat here is to accommodate better healing, she misses out on damage potential.
The only role she can play effectively is the Support role but our build allows her to do some extra damage, raising her viability as a decent Sub-DPS.
Barbara uses a Catalyst weapon type and has Hydro Elemental affinity. On our Genshin Impact Tier List, she ranks in the A-Tier making her a middle-of-the-road type character that can be useful or lacking depending on team compositions.
Normal & Charged Attack – Whisper of Water
Her Normal Attack shoots out up to a 4-hit combo Hydro Damage attack.
Holding her Charged Attack drains a portion of her stamina and unleashes an AoE Hydro Damage attack.
Elemental Skill – Let the Show Begin
Barbara’s Elemental Skill conjures musical notes made of water, creating a Melody Loop.
This causes Hydro Damage to enemies around Barbara as well as causing Wet.
While Melody Loop is active, Barbara can heal in multiple ways –
- Normal Attacks heal all nearby allies including party members for a percentage of their Health. Healing is scaled according to her Max HP stats.
- Charged Attacks will heal 4x the amount healed by Normal Attacks.
- Regens active character’s HP within predetermined intervals.
Melody Loop will also constantly surround the active character, inflicting Wet status to enemies that walk into the attack.
Elemental Burst – Shining Miracle
Barbara’s Elemental Burst is probably the simplest I’ve seen in Genshin Impact.
All it does is heal nearby allies and the party by a substantial amount. Healing via the Burst scales with her Max HP stats.
And if you’ve been playing Genshin for a while, you’ll notice that her Talent sheet is full of skills to heal herself, the party, and nearby allies. Granted, her healing skills are top tier but she doesn’t have a single skill to cause significant damage.
This is a big drawback to her character that lowers her Tier-list ranking and viability. A Support character doesn’t need to deal damage, but having both is ideal.
Luckily, with our build, she manages to increase her attack enough to serve as an additional Sub-DPS if necessary.
How To Build Barbara in Genshin Impact
As we’ve mentioned already, Barbara is suited to playing the Support role with the possibility of Sub-DPS if built correctly. With our build, she’ll be capable of doing both healing and dealing higher damage.
For her Support build, we’ll focus on increasing only her Maximum HP stats. Her healing spells scale with Max HP so that’s the main stat to increase.
Primary Weapon Choice – Everlasting Moonglow
Everlasting Moonglow is one of the best weapons for Barbara thanks to its dedicated skills and high base ATK. Of the weapons we’re showcasing today, the Everlasting Moonglow has the highest base attack.
Everlasting Moonglow’s Bonus Effect provides a +10% HP increase.
The weapon’s skills provide a Normal ATK DMG buff scaled to 1% of Barbara’s Max HP & +10% Bonus Healing. Additionally, 12 seconds after casting Elemental Bursts grants Normal Attacks 0.6 Energy regen once every 0.1 seconds.
Everlasting Moonglow is a great fit for Barbara because of the innate increases in Normal Attack damage and passive Energy Recharge after Burst.
This way her Normal Attacks not only heal after using her Elemental Skill, but you can deal additional damage. Passive Energy Recharge after Bursts is a nice bonus.
It makes up for her lackluster damage output by increasing damage scaled to Max HP, which is the main stat we’re increasing for Barbara’s build anyway.
You can also cast your Burst more often with this weapon, so overall, it’ll greatly enhance Barbara’s skills.
- Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers – Upon switching characters, the character on-field gains a +24% ATK buff for 10 seconds. Can be activated once every 20 seconds.
- Prototype Amber – Elemental Burst proc regens 4 Energy every 2 seconds. Lasts for 6 seconds. +4% Party HP Regen every 2 seconds until the duration ends.
The best Artifacts for Barbara’s Support/Sub-DPS build increase is Healing Bonus, Healing Effectiveness, or Energy Recharge. Sub-stats should increase Max HP or Healing Bonus.
- Ocean-Hued Clam – +15% Healing Effectiveness / Healing characters summons a Foam that stores total Healed HP for 3s. After the duration, Foam explodes, dealing 90% of Total HP regenerated as damage. Max 30,000 HP and one active Foam.
- Maiden Beloved – +15% Bonus Healing / Elemental Skill or Burst activation grants +20% healing received for all party members. Lasts 10 seconds.
- The Exile – +20% ER / After Burst proc, two Energy regen (active character & party) for a total of 6 seconds. Energy recharges every 2 seconds for the duration.
If you want additional damage with Barbara, your best bet is equipping a 4-piece Ocean-Hued Clam.
It’s a significant damage increase that scales Barbara’s healing capability, killing two birds with one stone. Since All Barbara can do is heal, it’s the optimal Artifact build to turn healing into huge damage potential.

How Old is Barbara in Genshin Impact
Since Jean is Barbara’s older sister, Barbara should be around 16-18 years old. Her Birthday is on June 5th.
And that wraps up our guide to Barbara’s Support build and hopefully, she’ll get you a lot of healing (and damage) with these Weapons and Artifacts.
