Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a relaxing “escapism” game that doubles as a passion project for a lot of people.
As Isabelle nicely puts it, beautification of the island is part of our responsibility as the Resident Representative, after all. Flowers, bushes, and vegetables are aplenty in the game, but organizing these things to make them look aesthetically pleasing can be a struggle.
To spark that creative lightbulb in you, we’ve gathered 10 amazing Animal Crossing garden design ideas from highly creative people. Links to their socials are under the images, so you can check out more of their work if you fancy any of their designs.
Let’s start gardening, shall we?
Animal Crossing (ACNH) Garden Design Ideas
10. Bush and Bell Garden
Like some sort of secret garden where lovers meet in secret, this bush and bell garden is nestled and hidden among the trees.
Twitter user mofu_mori uses differently colored Hydrangea Bushes and a Nuptial Bell at the center. To add a romantic element to the design, a Heart-Shaped Bouquet is placed below the bell.

09. Vegetable Backyard Garden
If you’re running out of ideas on what to do with your villagers’ yards, why not turn it into a backyard garden?
This Animal Crossing vegetable garden idea from Shellyac22 on Twitter shows that you can do it with a few crops, Stacked Bags as fertilizer and soil, Dirt Paths, and some Vertical Board Fences.
You can also make an old shed with two Stalls or Retro Transportation Stops put together and decorate the place with a Brick Well, a Windmill, Clotheslines, placed tools like a Flimsy Shovel and Watering Can, a Wooden Box with Potted Starter Plants on top, and a Plastic Canister and a pair of Boots on top of a Storage Shed.
08. Rainbow Flower Garden
Stuck on what to do with your flower garden layout? A creative way to display your flowers is to group them according to their colors.
Reddit user u/QuarantinedIslander grouped their flowers from sparkling gold to the darker violets and blues. You can also arrange them like a rainbow and place them horizontally or diagonally.
07. Community Vegetable Garden
Community gardens are wonderful, and they’re a great addition to any neighborhood. Your villagers will definitely enjoy a community garden of their own on your island!
Twitter user avalon_nh expertly creates an urban community vegetable garden with the use of origo_a’s worn down road code and items from the 2.0 Update.
Some of these items are Stacked Bags, Senmaizuke Barrels, Wheat Fields, Potted Starter Plants, a Tractor, Corrugated Iron Fences, and a Paradise Planning Planter.
To collect all the crops, visit Leif at Harv’s Island if you have unlocked him already or go to multiple Kapp’n islands. The crops available are potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, sugar cane, wheat, and pumpkins.
06. Apple Orchard
If a fruit garden is more your style, try this ACNH garden idea from argenie_ on Twitter. Apple trees are lined on both sides of the garden, with multiple Pergolas placed at the center as a walkway.
Plant Partitions act as fences at the front, while Log Fences are placed at the side. A Stepladder, a Wooden Box, an Apple Cardboard Box, some jars of Apple Jam, a Wooden Bucket, a few Decorative Bottles with Apple Labels on it, and some Leaf Piles complete the look of this lovely orchard.
05. Square Flower Beds
Breeding different flowers in the game can be difficult and super time-consuming. For the rare crossbreeds, it can take a lot of trial and error (looking at you, Blue Roses). It’s no surprise that after your flower breeding success you would like to proudly display your hard work.
Reddit user u/1ottierose neatly arranges their beautiful flowers in multiple square flower beds. This way, they are methodically placed in order of type, breed, or color, and you can arrange them in different color combinations too!
The garden’s entrance is decorated with a Wedding Arch and two Stone Lion Dog statues. Instead of fences, Hedges line and corral the whole garden. The Custom Design paths are from mirage.crossing on Instagram.
As suggested by u/1ottierose, putting paths at the side will stop the flowers from breeding some more and spreading to the rest of the island. Clever and beautiful!
04. Culinary Garden
This brilliant island garden idea fuses two things that a lot of people love in the game: gardening and cooking! Shellyac22 on Twitter puts a small kitchen next to their garden, giving it a restaurant garden feel.
The garden has Dark Dirt Paths, a Round Pillow with a displayed Flimsy Watering Can on it, a Stone Fence, a Plant Partition and a Wood Partition as fences, and Storefronts at the back to expand the house.
In the kitchen, you can see Vertical Board Fences, a Brick Oven, a Ranch Kitchen, and a Project Table with a Cutting Board and a basket of Bread on it.
Only the freshest bread and pizza are served here!
03. Statue Garden
For extra statues that you want to display, turning it into a statue garden is an excellent garden idea, as shown by Twitter user autumnweeds.
At the center of her statue garden is the Valiant Statue, with Turkey Day Garden Stands at the four corners of the area. The garden is corralled by Hedges and Triangular Topiaries, with Casablanca Lilies, Anthurium Plants, and Cherry Blossom Bonsai as flowers.
02. Rock Garden
No, you can’t plant rocks in Animal Crossing, but you can force your rocks to spawn in one area. You can turn this area into a rock garden, as shown by Tumblr user star–pochette.
Her cool and magical rock garden in hues of blue has a Stonehenge as its centerpiece, Frozen Trees in the corners, Stone Arches at the entrances, and Hyacinths and Hyacinth Lamps for the flowers. Magical!
01. Diagonal Garden
For something a little different from square and boxed vegetable garden ideas, here is crossing_kaylee’s take on diagonal gardens.
They placed their crops diagonally and decorated the place with a Wooden Bucket, Stacked Bags, a Veggie Basket, Stacked Senmaizuke Barrels, a Handcart, and displayed pumpkins and mushrooms.
They also added Potted Starter Plants, Hay Beds, a Tractor and Windmill, and a shed made using two Retro Transportation Stops put together. This is an amazing garden idea that will definitely stand out on your island!
