A villager who likes snacks and who’s also a snack himself?
Sounds crazy, but that’s Animal Crossing for you! Meet Zucker, a takoyaki octopus villager who’s lazy but is never too lazy to get snacks. Get cozy, grab some snacks, and read about him in this Zucker Villager Guide!
Who is Zucker in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?
Zucker is an octopus villager with a Lazy personality. He joined the Animal Crossing games when New Leaf was released. He has shown up in every game after that, most recently in New Horizons.
Zucker’s Name
Zucker’s English and Japanese names both revolve around his animal and food themes. Since he’s an octopus, his English name comes from the suckers on his tentacles.
Meanwhile, in the original Japanese game, his name is Takoya, which is based on his food theme and his love for snacks.
Zucker looks like a takoyaki, which is a Japanese snack that is round and fried in a special pan. This snack typically has minced octopus in it, with a special sauce brushed over and a toothpick pierced on top.
Both names are quite straightforward and easy to understand!
Zucker’s Looks
Zucker is true to his takoyaki origins. He definitely looks like a takoyaki ball.
His head is quite round with the same color as a fried takoyaki, his “hair” looks like the sauce brushed on top, his freckles either look like minced green onions that are used as filling or the green laver garnished on top, and he even has a toothpick sticking out of his head.
His overall body shape is typical for octopus villagers. They all have round heads and tentacle limbs. For Zucker, his body, which is red, is a different color from his head.
He wears a Happi Tee as his default clothing. This kind of clothing is typically worn during festivals in Japan. This still fits Zucker’s takoyaki theme, because you can find takoyaki stalls in festivals.
Zucker’s Catchphrase
He says “bloop” in English, which is tied to him being an underwater sea creature like an octopus.
In Japanese, Zucker says “seyanen” in his conversations, which is a Kansai-ben expression that means “yeah / that’s right / I suppose that’s true / exactly” in different contexts.
This Japanese catchphrase is perfect for him because takoyaki originated in Osaka, a city in the Kansai region.
Zucker’s Personality
Zucker has a Lazy personality, which means he’s pretty laid-back on a lot of things. He’s fond of napping, taking it easy, not exerting a lot of effort, and eating snacks! He’s very fond of the player and will show this by talking about his dreams (which you’re in it) and sharing his beloved munchies.
Jocks won’t be too fond of his relaxed ideas on exercise, and Snooty villagers will have a thing or two to say about the state of his clothes. Other personalities, like Peppy villagers, can get along with him because of their shared fondness for wacky conversations.
Overall, Zucker can get along well due to his easy-going nature. He sometimes sounds like his head is in the clouds and can come up with amusing and imaginative situations, so it’s always a treat to talk to him.
Zucker’s House
Zucker has a simple house with a color scheme similar to him. The roof is a Dark Brown Thatch Roof while the exterior walls have a Tan Panel Siding. The door is a Red Rustic Door.
His interior design is based on outdoor festivals, with a Backyard Lawn as his flooring and a Chain Link Fence wallpaper to mimic the outdoors.
His furniture consists of festival things as well, like the customized Stall, Cotton Candy Stall, and Party Garlands.
Zucker’s Popularity
He continues to be quite popular in different Animal Crossing communities. His takoyaki looks, his Lazy personality, and adorable facial expression make him one of the top favorites.
How To Get Zucker in Animal Crossing?
While you won’t have him as one of your first two starter villagers, since you’ll get a Jock and Big Sister for that, you can definitely meet him at Mystery Islands after.
When touring islands, the game will roll for species first, and personality second. There are only four octopus villagers in New Horizons, with Zucker the only one with a Lazy personality, so there’s a good chance you’ll get him.
He might also show up as a Campsite visitor if you don’t have a Lazy villager yet. However, if you don’t like waiting, the easiest way to get him is to invite him from another player island or through an Amiibo card.
What to gift Zucker?
In terms of fashion, Zucker likes Simple and Cute styles. His favorite colors are Blue and Yellow as well.
Combining this information, you can gift him a Chick Tee, Sushi Chef’s Outfit, or a Snowy Knit Cap in blue. Keep these in mind on his birthday, March 8th!
Zucker in the DLC
Zucker is very fond of festivals. His home is a festival, his default clothes are festival clothes, and now he wants his vacation home to be a festival too.
Use a Cotton Candy Stall, Pinball Machine, and a Shaved Ice Maker to create his preferred Happy Home Paradise home.
Zucker Trivia
He was in a LINE sticker for the 15th-anniversary sticker pack.
