In August 2016, Hello Games released a survival gaming title. The devs got some praise for trying to set up a beautiful universe, but the reviews were bad. Critics labeled it boring, repetitive, and lackluster. And then there were the bugs and glitches.
It’s fair to say that the launch was a mess.
But, instead of canning one of their biggest titles, the devs went back to the board and turned things around.
New game modes (including co-op multiplayer), plenty of updates, and a complete gameplay overhaul made No Man’s Sky what it was always supposed to become – the best space survival/explorer/builder game.
And lucky for us, the improvements haven’t stopped.
The devs promised a surprise, and players have been eyeing the big fish – cross-platform support. So, is No Man’s Sky cross-platform now?
Read through to find the answer.
Is No Man’s Sky Cross-Platform?
No Man’s Sky came out in 2016 for Windows and PS4. Xbox One users got the game in July 2018. And the year 2020 saw No Man’s Sky released on Game Pass, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5.
With the game now available on all platforms, fans only wanted one thing, and they got it.
In June 2020, Hello Games announced that No Man’s Sky will support cross-platform gameplay across all consoles and platforms.
Usually, when a studio is about to bring such a humongous feature to any of their titles, they wouldn’t stop boasting about it. However, Hello Games kept it a secret till the very end.
So now, whether playing on a PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, you’ll be part of the same pool of players, teaming up and facing off against cross-console and cross-platform gamers.
All you have to do is invite friends to your session. And regardless of their platform, you’ll get to explore the No Man’s Sky universe together.
If you don’t know, here’s how to send an invite to No Man’s Sky.
- Open No Man’s Sky.
- Open the Options tab and select Network.
- Click No Man’s Sky Friend List and invite whoever you want.
- You can also use the Add No Man’s Sky Friend option to add new friends.
Is No Man’s Sky Cross Progression & Cross Generation?
No Man’s Sky is available for the new generation of Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and thankfully it allows cross-generation gameplay as well. It means PS4 users can play with PS5 users, and Xbox One users can play with Xbox Series S/X users.
However, No Man’s Sky does not have cross-progression just yet. So, your bases and ships aren’t coming with you if you change platforms.
But, a rare win for PlayStation users.
For some reason, No Man’s Sky allows cross-progression between PS4 and PS5 but no other platforms.
Seeing as No Man’s Sky has cross-platform and cross-generation gameplay support, we wouldn’t be surprised to see cross-progression coming soon. Even if that doesn’t happen, there are always Reddit workarounds.
