So, how to marry in Skyrim?
Read on as we answer this, and more questions about marriage in Skyrim.
How To Get Married In Skyrim?
Getting married in Skyrim is a quest in itself. You’ll need to:
- Unlock Marriage.
- Find the Amulet of Mara.
- Find a Partner.
The quest to get married in Skyrim starts by unlocking marriage. And to do that, you’ll have to find and wear the Amulet of Mara.
You can find the Amulet scattered throughout the world. In fact, you might already have picked one up. Even if you don’t have one, it’s pretty easy to obtain.
Once you decide to get married, you have to travel to Riften. In Riften, you’ll meet Maramal, a priest at the Temple of Mara.
Sometimes Maramal is also available at the Bee and Barb.
After finding the priest, ask him about marriage in Skyrim. Then purchase the Amulet of Mara. It’s 200 gold, and it’s imperative if you want to get married.
.
Doing this also unlocks the Book of Love quest.
Now’s the time to find a partner.
Equip the Amulet of Mara and talk to one of the 60+ (male & female) NPCs that you think would make a good partner in life. But before you propose, you’ll have to complete a character-specific quest to win over your chosen one.
After completing that quest, you’re good to go.
And while we’re at it, here’s a list of the 10 most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes in Skyrim.
Best Male & Female Spouses in Skyrim
The complete list is too long, and frankly, not everyone is a worthy Dragonborn spouse. So, we’re going into matchmaking. Here are the best Skyrim wives and husbands for you to choose from.
And remember, always wear the Amulet of Mara when interacting with these NPCs to trigger the marriage dialogues.
5 Best Male Spouses [Females Below!]

This warrior from Markarth is Nord Housecarl and lives in the Vlindrel Hall. If you’re looking for a handsome and rich man, Argis The Bulwark is the one.

- Onmund
You can make Onmund your follower or you can have him as a husband. He is an aspiring mage studying at the College of Winterhold, and that’s where Dragonborn can meet him.
After completing the Under Saarthal quest, you’ll unlock Onmund’s Request. Complete that, and Onmund is there for the taking.
- Balimund
How about buying your way into marriage? If you are open to that, Balimund is too.
Balimund is a blacksmith from Riften. Players marry him after completing the Stoking the Flames quest.
