After almost a decade, the eighth generation of video game consoles is slowly coming to an end. With the releases of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X around the corner, it is only natural for the gaming community to be over the moon by this news.
Personally, the PlayStation 4 brought me endless hours of fun and escapism from daily life struggles.
I can’t help but be flooded by nostalgia, looking back at all the fantastic adventures this console granted me. Because of this, I think it is the appropriate time to take a walk down memory lane and go over the best-selling PS4 games of all time.

Geralt’s abilities can be increased and further equipment may be bought, allowing the player great freedom when it comes to “shaping” Geralt.

In fact, a grand portion of the game is set in the realm of Midgard, in ancient Norway. God of War 2018 features for the first time two protagonists: Kratos, first introduced in the Greek God of War, and his young son Atreus. The story is set after Kratos’ second wife and Atreus’ mother dies and both survivors seek to fulfill the final wish of her ashes to be spread at the highest peak of the nine realms.
While keeping his troubling past from Atreus, Kratos struggles with concealing his and his son’s divine nature. In their journey to commemorate their beloved’s request, the duo encounters a handful of monsters and gods of the Norse world.

The game focuses primarily on Peter Parker as Spider-Man, but the player is free to roam New York City, interact with various characters, undertake missions and side quests while unlocking new suits and gadgets. Playing as Ronald “Red” Daniels, gamers must work alongside their squad to accomplish all goals. WWII also offers a multiplayer experience, with original maps and modes. Call of Duty is a fan favorite, especially in competitive plays amongst friends. Despite this being the fourteenth installment in the Call of Duty series, the game was greatly expected prior to its release and warmly welcomed once it was out.

Set 40 years after Black Ops II, Black Ops III introduced a world revolutionized by new technologies and agitated by climate change. Besides a four-player co-op campaign, the game also offers a revamped Zombies gameplay and a Nightmare mode, which replaces all enemies as zombies.
Call of Duty: Black Ops III was praised for its extensive content, innovative gameplays, and gameplay in general. Some critics, however, expressed discomfort due to the absence of certain fan-favorite features and story mode characters. Described as “powerful” and “memorable”, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End exceeded all fan expectations since its announcement in 2013. Finally released three years later, the game delivered the story of Nathan Drake, a retired treasure hunter who is coaxed out of his hiatus by his presumed-dead brother Samuel Drake.
Nathan works alongside his longtime partner Victor Sullivan in the search for clues for Henry Avery’s lost treasure.
The game offers a third-person perspective and mixes elements of melee combat, open world, and puzzle-solving, delivering a unique experience for players. It also features an online multiplayer mode which allows up to ten players to interact in co-op or competitive modes.

We all have played it. It comes to no surprise, then, that the latest installment of the GTA series amassed over more than 20 million sales in PS4 alone.
GTA V follows three protagonists: street gangster Franklin Clinton, retired bank robber Michael de Santa and drug dealer and armed smuggler Trevor Phillips as they commit heists through the beloved San Andreas state. The characteristic freedom GTA grants players are ever-present, as well as many missions involving shooting and driving gameplay.
Needless to say, the game was both a massive commercial and critical success, despite the controversies surrounding it. It is currently considered one of the best video games ever made, and the second best selling game of all time.
