UK-based YouTuber, musician, and boxer JJ “KSI” revealed on June 9th that Twitch will be revoking his Partner status due to a lack of streaming activity.
This comes despite KSI’s widespread online popularity, highlighting Twitch’s adherence to their new Monetized Streamer Agreement.
A Surprise Notification from Twitch
KSI, who boasts over 20 million subscribers on YouTube, tweeted a picture of an email notification from Twitch announcing the removal of his Partner status.
The email cited the implementation of Twitch’s new Monetized Streamer Agreement as the reason for the termination.
Twitch Partners are required to stream for at least 25 hours within the last 30 days – a far cry from KSI’s total of about two hours in the past decade.
KSI’s Twitch Journey and the Fans’ Reaction
In 2013, KSI briefly ventured into Twitch streaming, playing primarily FIFA 13 and various horror-based games.
Despite his lack of consistent activity, he has amassed over 422K followers on the platform, demonstrating the loyalty of his substantial fanbase.
KSI’s reaction to the notification was a tongue-in-cheek tweet featuring a video of a man crying, suggesting he was upset about the situation.
However, given his significant YouTube following and his involvement in numerous other ventures, it’s clear that KSI is far from being truly bothered by the loss of his Twitch Partner status.
Community Response and KSI’s Current Focus
KSI’s array of entrepreneurial endeavours, including co-owning a drinks company called Prime Hydration and involvement with the Sidemen’s food chain Sides, clearly indicate that he is not overly concerned about his Twitch status.
His fans are accustomed to his diverse interests and seem to support his many ventures.
While KSI may not be focusing on streaming, other members of the Sidemen group are notable figures on Twitch. Simon “Miniminter” has an impressive following of 1.9 million on the platform, while Josh “Zerkaa” has garnered over 1.4 million followers.
The decision from Twitch serves as a reminder of the platform’s evolving policies and regulations.
However, KSI’s diverse achievements and ventures show that success in the digital age isn’t confined to a single platform or type of content. His adaptability is an inspiration for many budding creators who strive to build their online presence.
