Famous YouTube personality, Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg, has voiced his frustration over Japan’s stringent health regulations, claiming they may limit the time he can spend with his newborn in the hospital.
From YouTube Fame to Fatherhood
PewDiePie, a pioneer in the realm of gaming videos, held the title of YouTube’s most-subscribed independent channel for many years until MrBeast dethroned him in 2022.
Over the past five years, PewDiePie’s personal life has seen significant milestones including his marriage to Marzia in 2019 and relocating to Japan in 2022 following his semi-retirement in 2020.
Currently, PewDiePie and Marzia are eagerly awaiting the birth of their first child. Despite enjoying his semi-retired life in Japan, which he described as “a dream”, PewDiePie has expressed a significant concern – Japan’s strict health rules.
Health Rules in Japan Spark Controversy
In a recent YouTube video posted on June 15, PewDiePie acknowledged his appreciation for Japan’s adherence to structure and rules but noted these regulations can sometimes be exasperating.
PewDiePie commended Japan for its effective functioning, largely attributed to its myriad of rules. However, he also voiced his frustration, explaining, “sometimes, there are rules that just don’t make any sense.
I have no problem following rules as long as I understand the reason for it, you know. …a lot of it is just, ‘Be thoughtful of other people, it’s not just about you.'”
The YouTuber cited the strict health restrictions, claiming they will restrict him to spend no more than two hours with his newborn. PewDiePie and Marzia are expecting their baby to arrive in July 2023.
Expecting Parents Navigate Unsettling Regulations
PewDiePie lamented, “I’m not allowed to be in the delivery room for our baby for more than two hours… That’s because of [the global health problem] rules. It just doesn’t make sense to me… it’s really frustrating.”
Despite this perceived hiccup, PewDiePie continues to rate Japan as an “S+” country, urging his viewers to visit.
Among his reasons for relishing life in Japan, PewDiePie noted the relative anonymity and an overall sense of happiness in his retired life.
This recent disclosure follows the events of May, where PewDiePie addressed his unexpected ban on Twitch and rumors surrounding a potential hack on his channel.
As PewDiePie and Marzia await their upcoming bundle of joy, the couple are navigating the challenges of a foreign healthcare system amid global health crises.
