One of the reasons that Elden Ring became such a generation-defining game is due to its revolutionization of the world, storytelling and replayable experience of the classic open-world RPG.
While many will argue that it might not have deserved the unequivocal Game of The Year award from fans and critics worldwide, one thing cannot be doubted; Elden Ring is chock-full of unique items, weapons, enemies and a system that marries all of them together perfectly.
So let’s take a look at an item that is highly coveted in terms of player progression and the in-game grind; the Somber Smithing Stones, where they can be found and how they can help you level up quickly!
What Is A Somber Smithing Stone?
In simple terms, a Somber Smithing Stone is an upgrade material that can be found in several locations in the game world.
They are used to upgrade your gear, such as weapons and shields. If you want to make your weapons and other armaments more powerful by increasing their base and multiplier damage, these rare stones are something that you most definitely need.
The Stones are rare items and can only be found in specific places in the game, hence the reason for a guide such as this one. But how do you use one?
How To Use A Somber Smithing Stone
The stones can upgrade any equipment once, for up to 10 points above the weapons existing power. To use these, you must visit a Blacksmith, and carry the number of stones corresponding to the level of the weapon that you are trying to upgrade.
Although you can do it yourself at the Smithing Table at the Church of Elleh in West Limgrave, but only up to a +3 points.
A thing to note however, you can’t simply collect enough of these in one playthrough to upgrade every single weapon and shield, and it might take you a lot of playthroughs to get there.
