Exciting news has emerged for fans of the highly anticipated Elden Ring game. According to a recent rumor, the upcoming expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, is said to be as large as two separate DLCs.
This rumor has been making waves online just as the fandom stumbled upon a new bug in Elden Ring that is causing quite a fright.
Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
Back in late February, FromSoftware, the Japanese developer behind the game, officially announced the first expansion for Elden Ring. Since then, details about the DLC have been scarce, leaving fans to speculate wildly about what to expect from this highly anticipated update.
Now, known leaker Lance McDonald has added fuel to the fire by sharing some insights into the development of Shadow of the Erdtree.
In a recent Discord post, McDonald revealed that this expansion will be an enormous update, effectively combining all of FromSoftware’s post-launch content plans into one massive expansion.
Initially, the developer had plans for a season pass and separate DLCs, but they ultimately decided to consolidate everything into Shadow of the Erdtree.
The Only DLC for Elden Ring
McDonald further confirmed that Shadow of the Erdtree will be the only expansion for Elden Ring.
While some fans might have hoped for multiple DLCs, having one substantial expansion is still an improvement compared to FromSoftware’s previous game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which received no post-launch content at all.
Interestingly, this single-expansion approach is reminiscent of FromSoftware’s acclaimed game Bloodborne. Initially, the developers planned multiple expansions but ultimately combined all the content into The Old Hunters DLC, which was highly praised upon its release.
Still Unofficial
While this exciting rumor has yet to be officially confirmed, it’s worth noting that McDonald’s has a track record of reliable leaks. However, it may be some time before we receive concrete details, as Shadow of the Erdtree has yet to be given a release date or even a release window.
Given the reports that FromSoftware’s only planned release for 2023 is Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, fans can expect Elden Ring’s expansion to arrive no earlier than spring 2024.
