Worries about potential delays for FromSoftware’s next game, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, are dissipating with a promising update.
The South Korean rating board has officially rated Armored Core 6. Although a game’s rating in South Korea doesn’t always signal an imminent announcement or launch, historically, it’s a positive sign. Expect official Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon news soon.
FromSoftware’s Iconic Franchise Returns
Armored Core, a franchise with even more history than FromSoftware’s acclaimed Dark Souls RPGs, debuted in 1997. Since then, over 10 sequels, spin-offs, and expanded editions have hit the market. Announced at The Game Awards 2022, Armored Core 6 will be the series’ first release in a decade.
The game comes from a reinvented FromSoftware, riding high on the successes of Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Bloodborne.
Hopes for a 2023 Release Rekindled
FromSoftware revealed Armored Core 6 in December with a tentative 2023 release window. The studio’s history of significant delays led fans to fear this might be overly optimistic. However, the South Korean video game rating board has now reignited hopes for a 2023 release.
Their 12+ rating for Armored Core 6 suggests the game’s development is on track for a comfortable launch within that window.
A Peek into Armored Core 6’s Content Update
Unfortunately, the 12+ rating offers little additional information about Armored Core 6. The board assigned the rating due to “Mild Violence” from weapon-based attacks and explosions. Those hoping for Dark Souls-level violence or brutality should temper their expectations.
Moreover, an interesting detail from the brief plot synopsis for Armored Core 6 reveals the protagonist as a mercenary named 621 Raven. “Ravens” are pilots of Armored Core mechs, a term frequently used in the franchise. The reappearance of the term, absent in recent releases, hints at Armored Core 6 returning to the series’ original ideas.
Anticipating an Upcoming Reveal
It’s only a matter of time before FromSoftware unveils more information about Armored Core 6. Rumors suggest a launch between September and October, which could mean a big reveal is imminent.
The Summer Game Fest event in June and Gamescom 2023 in August both present excellent opportunities for announcements. However, don’t be surprised if news arrives even sooner.
