We know Rockstar’s working on GTA 6 since February 2022. That’s what ‘active development’ means.
Rockstar’s been working on GTA 6 post Red Dead Online since they worked on GTA for Switch and released it in 2021.
Despite that GTA release, we are yet to get a new GTA for 10 years since GTA V released in September 2013.
Now that a new Grand Theft Auto is well on the way, will GTA 6 be on PS4 like it will surely be on PS5 and other latest-gen consoles?
So Will GTA 6 be on PS4?
Let’s do this better. If you have a PS4 now, will you get a PS5 by 2025? That’s probably when GTA 6 will see the light of day even though there are suggestions that we might get it as early as late-2024.
PlayStation 4 released back in 2013.
So did the Xbox One.
Both these consoles released in November.
GTA V released in September, the same year.
On release, the game was compatible with PS3 and Xbox 360. It later adapted to PS4 and even PS5 compatibility. A lot of us still run the backward compatible GTA Vs to play across PS4 and PS5 gaming communities.
Now, will GTA 6 be on PS4?
Maybe. Sony is shipping PS5 features into the PS4 and if that’s a sign for things to come, Rockstar might have to include at least PS4 backward compatibility for GTA 6. I doubt it will get native compatibility to both PS4 and PS5 since the latest console generation is already 3 years old and therefore much more likely to get native compatibility. PS4 may miss out on early access and even the release date if it’s in 2025 but some patience may bear fruit.
It does (not) make sense to develop compatibility for probably the most anticipated game release this quarter of the century for a 15-year-old console. Chances are, the PS4 may not have the necessary capacity to run GTA 6 at all. But Rockstar always delivers the goods so if you have a PS4 and there’s no way you’re getting a PS5 soon, wait up.
And will GTA 6 be on PS4? It should.
