Despite attending other key events in the royal calendar, Meghan Markle has never joined the royal family for their Easter church outing. In this news story, we explore why the Duchess of Sussex has not attended this important event.
The 2018 & 2019 Easter Service
In 2018, the royal family gathered at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle for Easter service. The chapel was, in fact, the same location where Meghan and Harry would later get married.
However, the engaged couple opted to skip the gathering. Queen Elizabeth was joined for the service by other members of the royal family.
In 2019, Meghan missed the Easter church outing as she was pregnant with the couple’s first child, Prince Archie.
However, Prince Harry attended the event solo as it was just a short trip from their U.K. home of Frogmore Cottage.
The Impact of COVID-19
In 2020 and 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the royal family’s usual Easter plans.
They were forced to cancel their Easter outing. Instead, the palace released photos of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles on the grounds of Frogmore House.
The family returned to their Easter church outing in 2022. Prince George and Princess Charlotte are making their debut at the event alongside their parents.
Meghan Markle’s Attendance at Other Royal Events

Although they have been invited to the event, the couple’s spokesperson said that their attendance wasn’t confirmed yet.
