The music industry mourns the loss of Mark Sheehan, the co-founder, and guitarist of the Irish rock band The Script.
Sheehan’s death was confirmed by the band through a statement posted on Twitter, indicating that he passed away on Friday following a “brief illness.”
The 46-year-old musician is survived by his family, who asked fans to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
A life dedicated to music
Mark Sheehan formed The Script in 2001 alongside Danny O’Donoghue and Glen Power. Before the band launched, Sheehan and O’Donoghue were part of the boy band Mytown.
The Script’s self-titled debut album was released in 2008, and it was followed by five more studio albums, including Sunsets & Full Moons in 2019.
The band has produced numerous hits over the years, including The Man Who Can’t Be Moved, For the First Time, Breakeven, and No Good In Goodbye, among others.
A private battle with illness
The details of Sheehan’s illness have not been disclosed, and it’s not clear if it was related to the reason why he took time off from the American leg of the band’s most recent tour.
In an interview with the Irish outlet Sunday World in May 2022, O’Donoghue explained that Sheehan was spending time with his family.
He described Sheehan as the “engine of The Script” and encouraged him to take time off to be with his loved ones.
Tributes pour in
Following the announcement of Sheehan’s death, tributes from the music community and fans poured in on social media.
Many remembered Sheehan’s contributions to The Script’s music and his influence on their lives. Irish singer-songwriter Niall Horan tweeted, “Absolutely gutted to hear of the passing of Mark Sheehan.
One of the nicest men in the business and one of the most talented. We lost a good one today. Thinking of the lads and Marks family at this time.”
The Script’s fellow Irish rockers, Kodaline, tweeted, “We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of Mark Sheehan. Our thoughts and love go out to his family, friends and the whole Script family.”
A legacy that will live on
The Script’s music has left an indelible mark on the industry, and Mark Sheehan’s contributions to the band’s success will not be forgotten.
The band’s social media pages have been flooded with messages of condolences from fans, who are devastated by the loss.
Sheehan’s memory will live on through the music he helped create and the impact he had on the lives of those who knew him. The music industry has lost a talented artist, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
