There is probably no reason to explain much about Assassin’s Creed games. It is one of the most popular games in all parts of the globe. Everything started in 2007 when the first version of the game was released. People born in the 90s (teenagers at that time) probably remember what a boom that game was for the gaming industry. We couldn’t move from our computers because that game was so good.
The good news is that the same excitement for the game exists even today. Ubisoft realized how revolutionizing their first version of the game was, and they decided to continue to bring pleasure to the world in further years. Today, we have dozens of game versions, and each has become very popular after this game development company released it.
In this article, we would like to analyze each game from the series and explain to people the development of Assassin’s Creed over time. Let’s go!
Assassin’s Creed (2007)
As we said in the intro, everything started in 2007. The first version of the game was suitable for different devices. Primarily, Ubisoft developed this game only for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. As a result of considerable demand from the people, a year later, Ubisoft decided to develop a version that would be suitable for computer devices as well.
The gameplay of this version is interesting. People could control Altair Ibn-La’Ahad, a Levantine Assassin. The period this game was focused on was the 12th century. The goal that all the players had to achieve was to improve the rankings of the Assassin Order. Achieving that goal was only possible by carrying out different assassinations. Those orders players get from the leader of the Order. People had to reach other locations, such as Acre, Damascus, and Jerusalem, to accomplish the assassinations.
Assassin’s Creed II (2009)
2 years after the first version was released, Ubisoft developed another one. Once again, the game was focused on Desmond Miles. To be precise, it was focused on the period after he escaped Abstergo Industries, thanks to the assistance he got from one of the employees under name Lucy Stillman. The game was primarily released in the USA, then Australia, and at the end of 2009, the entire world got the chance to enjoy it. Just like in the previous case, the game was primarily developed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Years after that, people got the chance to enjoy the game on their computer devices.
There are multiple reasons why this version of the game impressed people. First, there were new weapons people could use. Apart from that, the ability to play games from the third-party view was also something new in the entire gaming world of that time. People could also do other things within the game, such as riding horses, swimming in the sea, and even using gondolas.
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (2010)
The graphics of this game were extremely improved compared to the previous version of the game (although they were not bad). This time, the story is related to Ezio Auditore da Firenze, one of the legendary Master Assasines. Within the game, his task was to rebuild once again the Assassin Brotherhood that was located in Rome.
The gameplay of this game version was extremely popular for multiple reasons. Primarily, people were impressed by the new weapons available within the game, such as mace, sword, and knife.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (2011)
The fourth version of the game was directly connected with the previous one. However, this time, the providers again focus on Desmond Miles’s life. To achieve his goals and awake again, Desmond had to wake up the memories of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, who was his mentor and inspiration. This time, the game’s first version was relaxed for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
The version of the game was available in multiplayer mode. That automatically made different maps, characters, and abilities within the game also available. That revolutionary feature made the game even more popular and got appreciation from many people worldwide.
Assassin’s Creed III (2012)
This sandbox-style version of the game was a bit different compared to the previous four titles people got the chance to play back then. The storyline is directly focused on the lives of Ratonhnhake and Haytham Kenway. The game is focused on the period between 1754 and 1783. During that period, the American Revolutionary Wars happened. But, there are also elements of modern periods because one part of the story is also dedicated to Desmond Miles.
There are many reasons why this game was popular, but the most significant one was AnvilNext. That game engine ensured better effects which made the game more entertaining. First, people got the chance to enjoy massive battle scenes with many close-up details. Also, people could see the seasonal changes (from winter to summer) for the first time.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)
This game version focused more on the period when pirates were quite popular. However, the game’s creators wanted to avoid some elements that people mostly associate with pirates such as Krakens and parrots. This variant of the game was pretty different compared to the previous ones we had, which is why the opinions on this game were pretty different in that period. Some people were pretty happy to see something different, while others expected things to go in the same direction.
Different activities within the game have become available together with the release of this version. People can now go hunting, enjoy the underwater environment, and even harpoon.
Assassin’s Creed: Rogue (2014)
This version of the game was focused on the Seven Years’ War. Players got the chance to control their ship and navigate it to reach some difficult-to-access regions such as icebergs. These icebergs were located in the North Atlantic Ocean and close to the Arctic.
However, everything starts in New York City, where players start their journey. Some previous activities within the game were removed entirely, such as exploring the underwater world because the world is freezing in those parts of the world.
Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate (2015)
Here, people had the chance to enjoy a completely different period of world history and other stories. The storyline focuses on the twins Jacob and Evie Frye, the famous protagonists. The game developers focused on 1868, when these twins came to London for the first time.
During that period, the territories where Templars were still in charge became poor due to the Industrial Revolution, so the twins moved to London. That’s why the twins decided to solve that problem by organizing a crime that would free London.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins (2017)
This version of the game is exciting. All the players got the chance to control the lives of two main characters – Bayek and Aya. The goal is to protect all the people living in the Ptolemaic Kingdom’s territory. During that period, those territories were under the command of Ptolemy XIII, the Pharaoh. Cleopatra, his sister, tried to counter-coup Ptolemy and help Julius Caesar invade the kingdom. Because of that, Bayek and Aya became assassins.
Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey (2018)
The gameplay of this game version was focused on Peloponnesian War. To be precise, the game was related to the wars that city-states within Greece back then had. You have the option to control two characters – Kassandra and Alexios. There are two options in front of you – to fight on the side of Sparta or Athens.
The game itself is pretty interesting because it comes with RPG software. In other words, there are multiple endings available that ensure additional entertainment.
Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla (2020)
Probably not so many people worldwide haven’t watched The Vikings series. Well, this version of the game was completely inspired by that series. It is focused on the period when Vikings came to England to participate in the Norse Invasion. That happened in the 9th century. This game comes with a full RPG, which ensures complete randomness of the game. Whichever decision you make, the situation in the world will change in real time. You can, for instance, make allays around the globe, which only makes the game more interesting.
Your task is to control Eivor, which, we have to admit, is highly entertaining. For instance, you can train new clan members or upgrade different structures, such as barracks. We believe that Ubisoft nailed it with this version!
Conclusion: Upcoming Game Versions
As you see, Assassin’s Creed has a very long tradition. Each of these versions was interesting in its own way. The progress in terms of commands, activities, and graphics was noticeable for every version that appeared on the market. But the good news is that Ubisoft does not plan to stop there.
There are two upcoming game versions, but we are not exactly sure what is their release date. The first one is Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, which should be released by the end of this year. On the other hand, there is also a version of Asassin’s Creed: Infinity, but the release date is not determined yet. We believe it will be released in 2024.
So, which of these game versions seems like the most interesting one?
