According to several media reports, pop star Taylor Swift and British actor Joe Alwyn have reportedly ended their six-year-long relationship. Entertainment Tonight was the first to break the news, citing an unnamed source who described the split as “amicable” and not dramatic.
Another anonymous source told ET that the relationship had simply run its course, which explains why Alwyn has not been seen at any of Swift’s recent shows. Representatives for the couple have not commented on the reports.
Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras’ tour continues amidst breakup news
Swift has been on tour since March 17 for her The Eras tour, which opened in Glendale, Arizona.
According to People magazine, a friend of the couple had previously said that Alwyn would be joining Swift on tour whenever he could. The couple has been notoriously private about their relationship and rarely discussed it in public.
In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Swift explained that she had set boundaries when it came to publicly discussing her relationships.
She said that she had learned that if she talked about her relationship, people thought it was up for discussion, which was not the case.
Alwyn has also spoken about the privacy of their relationship in past interviews, including when he addressed engagement rumors in an interview with the Wall Street Journal.
Swift and Alwyn notoriously private about their relationship
Swift and Alwyn reportedly met at the MET Gala in May 2016, while she was still dating DJ Calvin Harris. However, they kept their relationship strictly platonic until after her split with Harris in June 2016.
Alwyn, who has starred in films like The Favourite and Mary Queen of Scots, even helped co-write two songs on Swift’s 2020 pandemic album, Folklore, under the pseudonym William Bowery.
In a separate interview with Vulture, Alwyn revealed that the collaboration was completely unplanned. He said that he wrote the first verse of Exile with Swift during a session and that it was as basic as making sourdough. Swift has yet to comment on the reported break-up, and it remains to be seen whether she will address it publicly.
