There’s a lot going on with Ubisoft. Seems like they’ve almost found a new gear and are relying strongly on their Massive Entertainment studio to push ahead into the next generation of video gaming.
We’re getting the new Avatar game soon enough in December and then, we’re getting this, Star Wars Outlaws come 2024.
Even though there’s no official release date yet, a 2024 release seems very likely as Ubisoft explores new territories with courage, from Avatar with James Cameron to a new Star Wars game again with Lucasfilm Games.
We’re getting a double salvo of Star Wars games after more than a decade with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor releasing back in April.
Let’s get to Outlaws.
Star Wars Outlaws Release Date
This is why we can somewhat confirm that Star Wars Outlaws will release in 2024.
We got the new Avatar Frontiers of Pandora World Premiere back in June this year. It’s releasing in December.
Up top, that’s the Official World Premiere, also released in Ubisoft Forward 2023.
So, if not for divine intervention, we can expect Star Wars Outlaws to release in 2024.
But what could have been a pre-April release might not work out that way.
The Forward event also included insights on Ubisoft’s free-to-play FPS title XDefiant, a direct competitor to COD’s free-to-play and ETF. Bad news – that’s delayed without a date.
So, chances are that Ubisoft might take its time with Outlaws and come up with a release date that’s preponed with success, like in case of AC Mirage.
Best case scenario is that Ubisoft puts everything else aside and brings Star Wars Outlaws ahead for an April release. If not, it’s September.
Star Wars Outlaws Platforms
This upcoming Star Wars title from Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games will release across PC as well as consoles including Xbox X/S and PlayStation 5.
There’s not much chance that the game will serve backward compatibility for Xbox One or PS4 controllers.
But since this is from Ubisoft, Outlaws will release on Ubisoft+ which opens the doors for Amazon Luna.
This means you can play Star Wars Outlaws with your PS4 or Xbox One controller via Amazon Luna cloud gaming. All you’ll need is a Ubisoft+ subscription!
Star Wars Outlaws Storyline and Canon
The game will put you in the shoes of Kay Vees and in a timeline between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
As Kay, you’ll have your loyal companion Nix and the commando droid as sidekick. You’re embarking on a new life and for that, you’ll have to pull off the biggest heist ever.
The plot’s around the Outer Rim so you will travel through both new and old planets and worlds.
Ubisoft’s smart enough to gather that the best thing about Star Wars after the Jedis and Vader is its outlaws. This game puts you in as the next big outlaw (of course after Han Solo.)
Outlaws will be an open-world action-adventure single-player experience. Ubisoft’s one of the best at these and Massive’s one of the best at bringing complex unseen game environments to life.
We’ll have a lot of space dogfighting, quick-paced witty combat, stealth gameplay, and the likes.
Who’s Kay Vess? And who’s Nix?
Kay Vess is a scoundrel outlaw with a bounty on her head and the smarts to survive, outwit, and win her way out of a progressively dangerous space underworld. She can wield weapons, gadgets, blasters, she can solve puzzles with some help from Nix, she can outmaneuver the best space pilots – she’s a younger nimbler Han.
Nix is a Merqaal. Almost dog-like with his loyalty to Kay but with a cat-like curiosity, this little non-Earthly pet is Kay’s ball of fun on the run.
Is Star Wars Outlaws Open World?
Yes. Star Wars Outlaws will be the first ever Star Wars game set in an open world. The map will be divided across planets and before you get to it, there’s no confirmation on the number of planets in Star Wars Outlaws, yet. Each planet will have different zones, including key cities and then open areas beyond them. Unlike in most other games, this open world will not be procedurally generated so we can expect a linear storyline that’s strongly based on a static map.
How big will Star Wars Outlaws be?
Star Wars Outlaws will be bigger than Valhalla in total spread across an unconfirmed number of planets. Each planet will be equal to 2 or 3 zones or map sections from Odyssey, which is one of the largest (and best) open-world maps (and games) yet.
Will Star Wars Outlaws be bigger than Starfield?
Star Wars Outlaws will not be bigger than Starfield since it will not be procedurally generated. Outlaws will have a fixed number of planets with set concentrated locales and open areas. The overall map area will be static and divided across zones like in most other open-world games.
Will there be Jedi in Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws may include familiar Jedis in the storyline. Our MC Kay Vess is not identified as a Force-enabled warrior nor does she have any ties with the Jedi Order based on the official content and statements we have at hand so far. But the game is positioned before Return of the Jedi. So we may encounter key Jedi characters in Outlaws. Interestingly, there’s a section in the Official Gameplay Trailer where Kay Vess slows down time in a high-octane chase. That might mean Kay Vess can use the Force although that might just be Ubisoft adding slow-motion features commonly in games like RDR2.
Outlaws will bring open-world gaming to the extensive Star Wars video games franchise. That this game is in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games guarantees a full-blown Star Wars experience. While there’s no official Star Wars Outlaws release date, you can expect the game to release in 2024 for sure. By then, we’ll have Avatar Frontiers of Pandora to keep you busy and Starfield too if you want space-fi.
