Snapchat 101: How to Tell if You’ve Been Blocked

If you’re an avid Snapchat user, you may occasionally wonder if a friend or contact has blocked you on the popular multimedia messaging app.

Launched in 2011, Snapchat has captivated millions of users worldwide, becoming an integral part of many individuals’ social media routines. Here are a few ways to ascertain if you’ve been blocked on Snapchat.

Snapchat’s Disappearing Messages and Stories

Snapchat allows users to exchange messages, pictures, and videos that vanish after a predetermined time limit.

The platform’s Story feature, which lets users post content visible to all their contacts for 24 hours, has been so successful that it’s been adopted by other platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

As with most social media platforms, Snapchat allows users to block others.

Sometimes, however, it can be challenging to discern whether you’ve been blocked. Here are some methods to help you investigate.

Method 1: Checking Your Contact List

If you’ve previously messaged the individual you suspect has blocked you, their name should appear in your messages tab.

To access this, swipe right after opening the app. If their name is suddenly missing, they may have blocked you. However, this could also mean that they’ve simply removed you as a contact.

To search for someone’s username on Snapchat, tap the magnifying glass icon next to your icon in the top-left corner and type the account name into the search bar.

If their name appears and you can add them, it’s unlikely that you’ve been blocked. If their name doesn’t appear at all, it’s possible they have blocked you.

Keep in mind, though, that Snapchat now allows users to change their usernames, which might explain why you’re unable to find an account.

Method 2: Checking with a Different Account

If you’re unable to find a user’s name when you search for it, you might consider checking from a second account.

If the account name is visible on your second account but not your main one, it’s more likely that you’ve been blocked on the primary account.

It’s essential to note that you should not try to contact a person who has blocked you using a second account. The block is probably there for a reason.

While none of these methods can provide a definitive answer as to whether you’ve been blocked on Snapchat, they can give you a general idea and help you draw conclusions about your social connections on the platform.
