Queen Camilla’s upcoming coronation ceremony on May 6 will see her sister, Annabel Elliot, and Fiona Mary Petty-Fitzmaurice, one of the six Queen’s Companions, as her coronation attendants.
Elliot’s grandson, Arthur Elliot, will also be present as a Page of Honor, joining three of Queen Camilla’s teenage grandsons.
The palace announced the attendants’ selection, marking a modern update to reflect the monarch’s role today and the future.
A Family Affair
Elliot, 74, has previously accompanied Queen Camilla at various social events, and she was present at the royal wedding to Prince Charles in 2005.
Fiona Shelburne, professionally known as an interior designer, and also goes by the Marchioness of Lansdowne or Lady Lansdowne, has been a long-time friend of Queen Camilla.
They have previously appeared at the Wiltshire Game and Country Fair together.
The coronation for Queen Camilla will see three of her grandsons, Gus Lopes, Louis Lopes, and Freddy Parker Bowles, and Elliot’s grandson, Arthur Elliot, as Pages of Honor.
Meanwhile, King Charles will be supported by his grandson, Prince George, and three other boys.
Changing Times
The news of Queen Camilla’s coronation attendants comes two weeks before the coronation ceremony, which will have the Archbishop of Canterbury coronating King Charles and Queen Camilla before 2,000 select guests.
It marks a significant change from Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, which had six maids of honor wearing glittering white gowns with gold tiaras, complementing the Queen’s royal regalia.
Lady Mary Russell, Lady Rayne, Baroness Willoughby de Eresby, Lady Anne Glenconner, Lady Rosemary Muir, and Lady Moyra Campbell processed with the Queen for her entry and exit at Westminster Abbey.
In November, it was reported that Queen Camilla would replace the traditional ladies-in-waiting position with six “Queen’s Companions.”
The position would be more informal with reduced responsibilities compared to the lady-in-waiting posts. While ladies-in-waiting traditionally assisted with the Queen’s correspondence and communications, the companions will support Camilla at official engagements.
The six women said to be tapped for the job are Lady Lansdowne, Jane von Westenholz, Lady Katharine Brooke, Sarah Troughton, Lady Sarah Keswick, and Baroness Chisholm.
Looking to the Future
Buckingham Palace previously stated that the church service would reflect the monarch’s role today and the future.
The palace’s selection of coronation attendants reflects this same sentiment, with Queen Camilla’s family and close friends serving as her support system.
The coronation will mark a significant event in British history, and all eyes will be on Queen Camilla and King Charles as they take on their roles.
