Invited PS5 beta testers may now use Discord, Variable Refresh Rate support for 1440p, and updated user interface elements.
One of the most wanted improvements for contemporary consoles is voice chat support, especially for services like Discord.
Given how recently the app arrived on Xbox, its arrival on PS5 was inevitable.
What’s new for PS5 Beta
Minor UI/UX tweaks and quality improvements make up the bulk of PS5 upgrades, which will only come once every few months.
The PS5’s final big update brought support for 1440p monitors and Game Lists, which let gamers categorize their games for easier access.
Moreover, a corporate blog post claims that the PS5 will soon allow invited beta testers to join a Discord audio conversation.
This integration appears to be comparable to the Xbox implementation.
In order to start a voice chat session on the PS5, users would still need to access Discord via a mobile device or computer.
Microsoft’s improved integration, on the other hand, lets players join a Discord audio chat from within the Xbox itself, so this is a major contrast.
The beta version also adds new UI features including the “Join Game” and “Friends Who Play” icons, the ability to manually upload screenshots to the PlayStation app, and the capability to initiate or request a share screen from a friend’s profile.
New Social Features
According to Hideaki Nishino, here are the new social features as he explains in a blog post. You can also follow these steps from Discord’s website.
You can now join Discord voice chats on your PS5 console and easily chat with friends on most other gaming platforms.
To start, link your Discord and PlayStation Network accounts from your PS5 console.
Then, use the Discord app on your mobile device or computer to get a Discord voice chat going on your PS5 console (make sure your Discord app is updated to the latest version).
You can also let your Discord friends see when you’re online and what you’re playing.
Note: if you’ve linked your PlayStation Network and Discord accounts in the past to display what game you’re playing, you’ll need to link your accounts again on your PS5 console to grant the new permissions needed for Discord voice chat.

What’s more
Game presets for multiplayer session preferences, modest improvements to the game library and Variable Refresh Rate on 1440p will all be available to PS5 beta testers.
In addition, the beta version introduces new accessibility and ease-of-use capabilities, such as the ability to record games with a voice command and quicker access to saved PS4 data via the PS5.
Moreover, Sony is yet to reveal a public update, but the corporation promises that there will be “additional upgrades in the following months.”
Recent rumors suggest that the PS5’s Discord integration and its ability to stream games will be coming on March 8.
PS5 owners who have been waiting for a number of these capabilities, especially voice chat via Discord, will be pleased with the update.
If you’re not well-acquainted with its features, you can first learn how to stream on Discord here.
You can also check out Sony’s ad campaign “Live from PS5” which shows a video of your favorite games from last year, celebrating PlayStation’s success on its mark of supply issues.
