Meta has officially announced the Quest 3, the latest addition to their VR headset lineup. This announcement comes just before the Meta Quest Gaming showcase. The Quest 3 is set to launch this fall and will be priced at $499.99.
Powerful Performance
The Quest 3 is touted as Meta’s “most powerful headset yet” by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. It will feature a next-gen Qualcomm chipset, promising twice the graphics performance of its predecessor.
This means players can expect smoother gameplay and more immersive experiences.
Customization is a key feature of the Quest 3. It will be compatible with Quest2 games and will have a 40 percent slimmer optic profile compared to the Quest 2. Meta has also “completely redesigned” the Quest 3’s Touch Plus controllers for a “more streamlined and ergonomic form factor.”
This will allow players to interact with the virtual world in a more intuitive and comfortable way.
Price Cut for Quest 2
In addition to the announcement of the Quest 3, Meta also revealed a price cut for the Quest 2. The 128GB model will now cost $299.99, and the 256GB model will be priced at $349.99. This price reduction comes almost a year after Meta announced it was increasing the prices of both Quest 2 models.
Meta also announced a new software update for the Quest 2 and Quest Pro. This update will increase the performance of both VR headsets.
The company claims the update will result in up to a 26 percent CPU performance increase, up to a 19 percent GPU increase for the Quest 2, and up to 11 percent for the Quest Pro.
More Details to Come
Meta didn’t share too many details about Quest 3, but they did say that more information will be revealed at their Connect conference on September 27.
This announcement comes just before Apple’s annual WWDC 2023 keynote, where it’s rumored that the iPhone maker will announce its own mixed-reality headset.
