‘Father Stu’ Actor Mark Wahlberg Talks About the Impact of the Catholic Faith on His Life and Career

Mark Wahlberg, a 51-year-old Hollywood actor, has spoken about how his commitment to his Catholic faith has impacted his life. Wahlberg, who played the role of a priest in the biographical drama “Father Stu,” expressed that his faith was the most important aspect of his life, attributing all his achievements to his devotion to God.

Despite his faith being unpopular in Hollywood, Wahlberg would not “deny” his faith because “that’s an even bigger sin.” Wahlberg’s Catholic faith has also affected his career choices and the acting roles he has taken on in Hollywood. Although he doesn’t shy away from his faith, he doesn’t jam it down anybody’s throat.

Wahlberg is ‘Father Stu’

Wahlberg produced and starred in Father Stu, a biographical drama based on the real-life redemption story of Stuart Long. The film follows the story of a troubled boxer and actor, Stuart “Stu” Long, who eventually finds his calling and path to redemption by becoming a Catholic priest. Wahlberg, who played the titular role, hoped the film would help people understand and embrace the message that we will all suffer a little bit, but there is a bigger purpose and a bigger reason for that. In addition, the film is symbolic of Wahlberg’s redemption through faith. 

Wahlberg has been successful in acting and is a two-time Academy Award nominee. However, he has also launched the global restaurant chain Wahlbergers with his brothers, Chef Paul, and Donnie Wahlberg, and founded the apparel line Municipal. He recently celebrated opening the second Las Vegas Wahlbergers location on the Strip. Wahlberg is hoping that God is a movie fan, and he has taken on some questionable roles in movies such as “Boogie Nights” and “Ted.” Nevertheless, he doesn’t want to compromise his artistic integrity, but as a parent and husband, those things weigh into his decision-making.

Despite the criticism that Wahlberg may face, his faith remains the most important aspect of his life, and he doesn’t deny it for anything. Wahlberg also recently partnered with the Catholic app Hallow, which provides meditation and spiritual practices.
