King Charles III was reportedly upset over the absence of two of his five grandchildren, the children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, from his coronation held on May 6 at Westminster Abbey.
According to a royal expert who spoke to Fox News Digital, the decision was made due to the event coinciding with Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
However, King Charles made a toast to Archie in honor of his birthday during the event.
Behind-the-Scenes Struggles
The absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children from the coronation reportedly weighed on King Charles’ mind.
The British royals expert, Hilary Fordwich, described the king as a loving and genuine man who had a close friendship with Lionel Richie.
Despite Prince Harry’s attendance at the coronation, he reportedly went straight to the airport following the event and did not appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony.
The expert, Christopher Andersen, stated that before “Megxit,” Prince Harry was always front and center, adding his own spark of youthful exuberance and personal charisma to the otherwise mostly drab royal tableau.
He added that the people loved their mischievous rebel prince, and King Charles never turned his back on Harry, no matter what kind of trouble he got himself into.
Prince Harry’s Attendance
According to Andersen, even if Prince Harry had stayed in town, he wouldn’t have been invited onto the balcony due to his status as a non-working royal family member.
However, he would have shown up on the palace balcony had he been asked. Andersen believes that Charles is “weak” when it comes to bucking the palace bureaucracy, even though he is the boss.
As a result, the standoff between the Sussexes and the rest of the royals continues, even though the king could unilaterally end it in a New York minute.
Prince Harry was reportedly invited to the family luncheon that took place after the coronation, but he chose not to attend. Fordwich called the move by the Duke of Sussex a “huge shame” and a missed opportunity to heal wounds.
She added that millions of children across the globe have their birthday on a separate day when their parents are working or some business or special event.
A 4-year-old could have had his birthday party one day later, and Harry could have made his father happier.
The Sussexes and the Royal Family
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles in January 2020, causing tension between the couple and the working members of the royal family.
The couple has participated in a handful of high-profile interviews where they spoke about the royal family.
In the Netflix series, Harry and Markle said the royal family did nothing to help combat the onslaught of negative press that the couple constantly faced.
Since stepping back in 2020, the couple has settled in their California home to raise their two children.
The absence of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s children from King Charles’ coronation has highlighted the ongoing rift between the couple and the royal family.
Despite the efforts of King Charles to bridge the divide and heal the wounds, the situation remains unresolved, leaving many wondering if and when the Sussexes will reconcile with the rest of the royal family.
