The Star Wars Celebration in London was exciting as fans got a sneak peek at the upcoming Indiana Jones film, The Dial of Destiny. Directed by James Mangold, the fifth installment in the series features Harrison Ford again in the role of the iconic adventurer Indiana Jones.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge joins the cast as Indiana Jones’ goddaughter, who convinces him to come out of retirement. The trailer and footage shown to the delighted crowd were full of classic Indy moments, including tuk-tuk races, horseback riding through a New York street parade, and jumping out of a burning plane with Waller-Bridge.
The story revolves around an ancient device being chased by Jones and a villain played by Mads Mikkelsen, who seeks to correct Hitler’s mistakes. Keeping with the series’ ongoing Nazi theme, the movie promises to be a thrilling adventure.
A Star-Studded Cast
In addition to Ford and Waller-Bridge, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny features an impressive ensemble cast, including Antonio Banderas, John Rhys-Davies, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Olivier Richters, Ethann Isidore.
This will be the first Indiana Jones film not directed by Steven Spielberg, who helmed the first four installments. Mangold previously directed the critically acclaimed Logan and is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the franchise.
An Older, Wearier Indiana Jones
The Dial of Destiny picks up with Indiana Jones at age 70, and the film will acknowledge that this is an older, wearier character. Mangold has said he wanted to address this head-on, delving into the character’s inner struggles and challenges as he faces a new adventure. John Williams, the composer behind the previous installments, returns to score the film.
Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel produce the film, while Spielberg serves as an executive producer alongside George Lucas. The Dial of Destiny is set to release on July 29, 2022, and promises to deliver the thrilling adventure that fans have come to expect from the Indiana Jones franchise.
