Many people find it difficult to craft a torch in Minecraft and so miss out on the benefits that come with it. But for our readers, we have made a complete guide on how to make a torch in Minecraft.
Torch is a useful item in Minecraft that can be used for lighting up the place and preventing mobs from spawning. It can also be used for decoration purposes as well as in other crafting recipes.
What You Need to Craft Torch
Torch is a common item in Minecraft. You can craft it easily with some Sticks and Coal/Charcoal. Or find them in the world.
- 1x Stick
- 1x Coal or Charcoal
How to Make a Torch in Minecraft
Step 1: Collect 1x Stick
You will need to chop down some trees to get Log, and then craft the Log into 4x Planks.
Then you can place 2x Planks in one column in the crafting grid to craft 4x Stick.
If you’re in the Jungle biome and have some Bamboo, you can use 2x Bamboo instead of Planks to craft 1x Stick.
You can find Stick by going fishing with a fishing rod. There is a super small chance you will catch 1x Stick.
Witches are the only hostile mob that can drop 0-6x Stick on death. You can use a sword with a Looting III enchantment to increase this number to 15x Stick.
You can also break Dead bushes and Leaves to get 0-2x Stick. Leaves can be found everywhere on top of trees, and Dead bushes are only generated in the Desert biome.
Alternatively, you can find Stick in the Bonus chest. It has a high chance to contain 1-12x Stick, just make sure to turn this option on when first creating the world.
Step 2: Collect 1x Coal or Charcoal
Coal is a common mineral in Minecraft that can be obtained by mining Coal Ore with a pickaxe.
You can find Coal Ore literally at any Y-axis layer. But the most efficient will be the 95 and 136 layers.
Mining a coal ore with a normal pickaxe will yield 1x Coal. If you have a Fortune III pickaxe, it will drop up to 4x Coal per ore.
If you’re using a Silk Touch pickaxe to mine the Coal Ore, you will receive 1x Coal Ore instead.
To turn it into Coal, you can place it down and break it with the normal or fortune pickaxe. Or put it in the Furnace to smelt it down to 1x Coal.
Coal can also be found in looted chests in most Minecraft structures like Dungeons, Mineshafts, Igloos, Shipwrecks, Strongholds, Underwater Ruins, Village, and Woodland Mansions. They have a variety of chances to contain 1-8x Coal.
If you love fighting for Coal, Wither skeletons in the Nether dimension have a 33.33% chance to drop 1x Coal on death. And up to 4x with Looting III enchantment.
To get Charcoal is quite simple, you just need to smelt any Log/Wood/Stripped Log/Stripped Wood in the Furnace. Each Log will yield 1x Charcoal.
Step 3: Finish off Crafting a Torch
When you have 1x Stick and 1x Coal or Charcoal, press E to open your inventory and put the Stick at the bottom of the crafting grid. Then place the Coal or Charcoal on top of it to craft 4x Torch.
Congratulation on your Torch! Now let’s light up your base so hostile mobs can’t spawn and harm you.
