Actresses Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson are setting the record straight regarding past rumors of a feud while working together on the set of Iron Man 2.
During a recent episode of The goop Podcast, the two stars discussed their experience working on the 2010 superhero film.
Clearing Up Rumors
Paltrow, who played Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shared with Johansson, who portrayed Black Widow in the film, that people had asked her if the rumors about the two actresses not getting along on set were true.
Johansson was surprised to hear this and responded by saying that Paltrow was always kind to her during filming.
She explained that she was out of her comfort zone while filming Iron Man 2 since she had never done anything like it before.
She was grateful for the support and deep friendships that Paltrow and the rest of the cast had established.
Moving On From Marvel
Paltrow further responded by saying that the cast was “so psyched” to have Johansson on set and that she was “happy to have another woman around.”
Paltrow and Johansson starred alongside Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, Don Cheadle, and Jon Favreau in the film.
While both actresses reflected on their time working on Marvel movies, they also shared their belief that their time in the franchise was likely over.
Johansson stated that “Chapter is over. I did all that I had to do” and mentioned that playing the same character over a decade is a unique experience.
Paltrow jokingly remarked that the possibility of a “64-year-old Pepper Potts” appearing in future movies seemed unlikely, but she added that she didn’t die, so they could always ask her to return.
Past Feud Rumors
This isn’t the first time that rumors of a feud between Paltrow and Johansson have surfaced. In 2010, Paltrow addressed the rumors, telling PEOPLE, “They’re pitting you against each other, and I just think, ‘Why do we need to make a problem between women?’ I think that’s the part that’s lame.”
Paltrow went on to say that she adored Johansson, loved having her on set, and that she was funny, had a dirty sense of humor, and loved to cook. Johansson and Paltrow’s recent conversation on The goop Podcast only reaffirmed that their relationship during the filming of Iron Man 2 was a positive one.
