A decade since GTA V, a lot has changed in gaming.
We now have almost endless open worlds, ultra-realistic graphics and gameplay, deeper RPG structures, and a horde of indie games taking the competition to the biggies.
So, for Rockstar to achieve the decade-old successes of GTA V, GTA 6 must be next-gen.
That starts with absorbing some gaming trends that can merge well with the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
Just why we might get multiple GTA 6 characters as playables.
Confirmed GTA 6 Characters
Most of what we have on GTA 6 is based on speculative interpretations from leaked footage and screenshots of a new GTA from back in September 2022. Rockstar was quick to quash the content and put in digital copyrights.
But by then, we already knew GTA 6 will have a female protagonist up front, as well as the obvious male lead.
But Rockstar can change their plans since the leak took away their element of surprise.
I’m sure they’ll stick to a female lead since it’s already there and despite a small section of fans seemingly unhappy about it, they do not represent the majority.
While the female lead seems to be a Latina woman, the male lead is the typical white American male.
So far, there’s very little to go on but based on the pre-alpha leaks, GTA 6 will surely have 2 characters – Lucia and Jason.
What Rockstar might do is increase the representation, add further playable characters.
GTA V had 3. GTA 6 should have double that!
But right now, GTA 6 will have 2 playable characters.
We should get 2 more characters as playables, 1 female and another male.
That’s the only way co-op would make sense otherwise male gamers would be stuck with Jasons and females with Lucias.
This is why there are rumors that GTA 6 will have 4 characters and not just 2 – another male and another female playable. But that’s just speculation.
Will GTA 6 have character-based storylines and progression?
Question – will Rockstar introduce RPG-like deep character progression in GTA?
We can speculate that GTA 6 will bring in a lot more interactivity and a more organic open world for realistic immersion.
But if Rockstar does make GTA 6 a full-blooded RPG customized with the GTA genre of do-whatever-you-want gaming, it’ll surely be epic.
GTA Online does show bits and pieces of an MMORPG concept. Chances GTA 6 will only do that but a lot better.
And for that to happen, Rockstar will need multiple playable GTA 6 characters and a progression system for unique characters for each player.
I find Rockstar adding more than two GTA 6 characters as playables including at least 1 female character. For a game that must set new standards, this looks very likely and surely Rockstar feels the same way.
