Mortal Kombat 1 has unveiled a new trailer, announcing the comeback of Geras as a playable character. This marks a fresh start for the renowned fighting game franchise, as it reboots its universe once again.
A New Era in Mortal Kombat
The events of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath are confirmed to be canon in Mortal Kombat 1, particularly Liu Kang’s ending. After defeating Shang Tsung, Liu Kang gains the power to create a New Era where everyone can either live a peaceful life or continue fighting.
This New Era will assign fighters with entirely different roles than fans are accustomed to, and every Mortal Kombat 1 trailer released so far confirms these anticipated changes.
Geras: From Antagonist to Playable Character
During DreamCon 2023, NetherRealm Studios released a new trailer that revealed Geras as a playable character. Geras, first introduced in Mortal Kombat 11, was a faithful servant of Kronika and possessed god-like powers.
Although he played the role of an antagonist in Mortal Kombat 11, the Mortal Kombat 1 trailer reveals that Geras has now become the guardian of the Hourglass, which Liu Kang used to defeat Shang Tsung. The trailer also hints at a friendly relationship between Geras and Liu Kang.
Despite Geras’ return to Mortal Kombat being unexpected, fans have warmly welcomed the announcement.
Geras’ New Design and Moves
The trailer not only announces Geras as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 1 but also showcases his new design and some of his moves. Geras remains the master of the sands of time, using them to attack opponents in conjunction with the Hourglass and extended time-stop powers.
The new trailer also confirms the new Mortal Kombat 1 Fatality, one of which features Geras grinding down Baraka against a sandstorm. In the second Fatality, Liu Kang takes Sub-Zero into space and executes him in true Mortal Kombat fashion.
More News from Mortal Kombat 1
The return of Geras is just one of several Mortal Kombat 1 news revealed by NetherRealm Studios. Last week, Mortal Kombat 1 revealed the voice actor for Omni-Man, who will be one of the guest characters added through the Kombat Pack DLC.
For players excited about all the news related to the game, a Mortal Kombat 1 beta is confirmed for August. It will give players access to more of the base roster, the standard 1v1 mode, and a single-player version of Klassic Towers.
