The gaming community is abuzz with speculation and excitement following leaks about the potential DLC characters for the highly anticipated Mortal Kombat 1.
The game, which was officially announced on May 18, 2023, has been the subject of numerous leaks, adding to the anticipation surrounding its release.
The Leaks and Their Origins
The first significant leak about Mortal Kombat 1 came from a Warner Bros. financial report in February, months before the official announcement. Since then, several leaks have surfaced, primarily focusing on the game’s potential DLC characters.
On May 11, Twitter user billbil-kun claimed to have received confirmation about the game’s title and its availability on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The leak also suggested that The Boys’ Homelander and DC’s Peacemaker would be included as DLC fighters.
The next major leak came on May 19, a day after the official announcement. This leak suggested the entire contents of the game’s first Kombat Pack, including six playable characters and five Kameo fighters.
The playable characters include Mortal Kombat regulars like Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda, along with guest characters Homelander, Peacemaker, and Omni Man from Invincible.
The Kameo Fighters
The Kameo fighters, secondary characters used in matches to perform special moves, include Tremor, Johnny Cage, Khameleon, Mavado, and Ferra. While Johnny Cage, Ferra, and Tremor are familiar to new Mortal Kombat fans, Mavado and Khameleon might be less known, as they haven’t appeared in the reboot series yet. Mavado first appeared in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and Khameleon made her debut in the N64 game Mortal Kombat Trilogy.
The Credibility of the Leaks
While it’s always wise to take leaks with a grain of salt, there are some indicators that suggest the Amazon leak might not be entirely false.
The Amazon listing also mentioned a Jean-Claude Van Damme Johnny Cage skin and at least 72 hours of early access, both of which have been confirmed in the official reveal of the Premium and Kollector’s editions of Mortal Kombat 1.
Both editions also come with a Kombat Pack, adding six playable characters and five Kameo fighters, aligning with the leaked information.
The Release of Mortal Kombat 1
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be released on September 19, 2023, for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. With the leaks adding to the anticipation, fans are eagerly awaiting the game’s release and the chance to play as their favorite characters.
