The FaZe Clan, a prominent esports organization, finds itself mired in controversy yet again. Owner Nordan “Rain” Shat has made another allegation regarding past decisions made by the company, further contributing to the negative press surrounding FaZe.
Rain’s Revelation: The NICKMERCS Signing
On May 19, FaZe Clan made headlines for laying off nearly half of its staff. Now, Rain has turned his attention to the signing of streamer Nicholas “NICKMERCS” Kolcheff, who is not only a member but also a co-owner of FaZe Clan.
Rain took to his Instagram story to share his claim: “You know FaZe recruited NICKMERCS in 2018 as ‘damage control’ (their words not mine) to the Tfue situation and those idiots have been paying him $1M a year since.
I couldn’t think of ONE memorable moment with NICKMERCS and FaZe. Like literally not one. No other FaZe member gets even close to that #btw.”
NICKMERCS and FaZe Clan History
NICKMERCS joined FaZe Clan in 2019 and became an equity stakeholder in 2021. Before joining FaZe, he was a prominent member of Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag’s 100 Thieves organization.
FaZe Clan’s turbulent history includes a highly publicized fallout with former member Turner “Tfue” Tenney in 2019 and 2020, resulting in a lawsuit over contract disputes.
While it was reported that Tfue and FaZe Clan settled their litigations in August 2020, Rain claims that NICKMERCS was signed as “damage control” during the initial controversy.
Furthermore, Rain alleges that the organization pays NICKMERCS $1 million per year, a significantly higher amount than other FaZe members receive.
In an additional Instagram story post, Rain accuses FaZe’s CEO of misleading everyone regarding his own salary.
Rain’s Troubled Relationship with FaZe
Rain’s recent revelation adds to the strain between him and the organization.
On May 2, he appeared to threaten to leave FaZe unless the director of social media, Cbass, was removed. In April, he expressed his frustration on Twitter, stating that the “corporate f**ks” in charge didn’t know how to manage the brand effectively.
As Rain continues to share his allegations on his personal accounts, it remains to be seen how FaZe Clan will address these new claims and navigate the ongoing drama surrounding the organization.
