TikTok users can easily delete their search history on the platform, ensuring their privacy and maintaining a clean slate.
Whether users want to remove specific search items or clear their entire search history, TikTok provides simple options to achieve this.
To delete individual search items, users can open the TikTok app and tap the magnifying glass icon at the top right corner to access the Search page.
Below the search bar, users will find a list of their past searches, each accompanied by a gray ‘X’ icon. By tapping the ‘X’ next to the desired search item, users can remove it from their history.
In case the search history contains more than three items, users can expand the list by clicking on the “See more” dropdown tab. To clear all search history, users can select the option “Clear all.”
Taking Further Steps: Deleting Watch History
For users who wish to go beyond clearing their search history and also eliminate their watch history, TikTok offers additional options.
By heading to their profile and tapping the menu icon at the top right, users can access the “Settings and privacy” section. Within this section, they should scroll down to find “Comment and watch history.”
Under “Comment and watch history,” users will see two tabs: one for watch history and another for comment history.
To delete the watch history, users can select the first option and tap “Select” at the top right. They can then choose specific videos to remove or opt to delete all watched videos within the last 180 days by selecting “Select all watch history” and then tapping “Delete.”
Refreshing the For You Page Algorithm
In addition to clearing search and watch history, TikTok offers users the ability to refresh their For You page algorithm. This option allows users to start fresh and discover new content tailored to their current preferences.
To refresh the For You page algorithm, users can take advantage of the recently launched “Refresh” option.
By selecting this option, TikTok will recalibrate the content recommendations based on the user’s updated preferences, ensuring a personalized and engaging experience.
