Crossbow is a new ranged weapon added in the Villager and Pillager 1.14 Minecraft update. This new weapon significantly improves the combat style and provides more content in the fighting aspect. Also, you can even enchant the crossbow for maximum damage and other special abilities.
This article will cover the top 6 enchantments that you can add to the Crossbow and specify the best Crossbow enchantment so you can just apply it to your world right away!
Best Crossbow Enchantments in Minecraft
1. Quick Charge
Unlike a bow, in order to shoot the crossbow, you will need to load the ammunition first. The unenchanted crossbow takes up to 1.25 seconds to load, that’s around 25 game ticks if you want further calculation.
Quick Charge enchantment has a maximum level of three and the level can be increased limitlessly by using a command. Each level of Quick Charge will decrease the time to load the crossbow by 0.25. At level III, it only takes 0.5 seconds to load the crossbow and it’s slightly faster than a normal bow.
Using commands to put Quick Charge IV or V into a Crossbow is possible. This will make the crossbow loaded instantly. But any level higher than V will make it impossible to shoot the Crossbow.
When it comes to ranged weapons, Multishot is an unmentionable enchantment! Basically, Multishot allows the Crossbow to shoot 3 projectiles instead of one.
Multishot only has one level. Each projectile deals the same damage as the main projectile. This enchantment works for any kind of arrows as well as fireworks. And it only consumes one ammunition per shoot.
Although it seems overpowered at first, there are some penalties when using a multishot crossbow.
First, your crossbow will break faster since multishot crossbows use 3 durability points when shooting, and up to 9 when you shoot fireworks. Secondly, you can’t have a crossbow that has both Multishot and Piercing.
Piercing is a crossbow enchantment that makes your projectile pierce through enemies. If you’ve ever come across a large number of mobs and have limited ammunition, Piercing will save your life!
With the maximum level of IV, each level of Piercing will make your projectile hit one more additional entity and up to 5 entities at the maximum level.
Piercing works with any type of arrow, but not fireworks. Also, you can’t have Piercing and Multishot in a single crossbow naturally. This can be done by using commands, however.
To solve the problem of faster breaking while using Multishot, you can enchant your crossbow with Unbreaking as well! Unbreaking is a common enchantment that simply increases the durability of the crossbow.
In advance, the way Unbreaking works is they have a chance to not reduce the durability of the item. Unbreaking I provides a 50% chance, while Unbreaking II is 66.66% and Unbreaking III is a 75% chance.
On average, a normal crossbow has 326 durability points on Java Edition and 464 on Bedrock Edition. With Unbreaking III enchantment, this amount can be increased to 1304 and 1856.
Mending – a must-have enchantment for all of your items and armors! And yes, you can apply it to the crossbow as well.
Mending allows you to repair your crossbow by gaining experience points from any activities such as killing mobs, smelting ores, or using enchanting bottles.
6. Curse of Vanishing
Curse of Vanishing is by far the most annoying enchantment in Minecraft. But still, it can be added to a crossbow and has its own usage in some situations.
With the Curse of Vanishing enchantment applied, the item will just disappear into the void if the player holds it die.
This may seem ridiculous at first but just imagine you’re about to use your best gears to combat your enemy. This will make your valuable items disappear and your opponent can’t have them either.
