Tristan Tate, brother of controversial internet personality and former kickboxer Andrew Tate, has been hit with a new charge of inciting others to violence by Romanian prosecutors.
The charge was added to his name on Monday by Romania’s anti-organized crime prosecuting unit, DIICOT, investigating allegations of human trafficking, rape, and the formation of a criminal gang to sexually exploit women.
New charge
The Tate brothers and two Romanian female suspects have been placed under house arrest as part of the investigation. A defence lawyer for the Tate brothers said a statement would be issued on the new charge later.
Romanian prosecutors filed charges against the four suspects, but the case is under investigation and has not gone to trial.
Prosecutors have until June to send the case to trial.
Tristan Tate took to Twitter to respond to the charge, claiming that prosecutors were making up new charges without evidence.
He accused them of trying to distract from the main case of human trafficking against his brother and the other suspects.
Previous developments
The Tate brothers have denied the accusations against them, with Andrew Tate claiming that the case is a political conspiracy designed to silence him.
The four were held in police custody from December 29 until March 31, when a Bucharest court placed them under house arrest following a successful appeal against their detention.
DIICOT said in a statement after the December arrests that it had identified six victims in the human trafficking case who were allegedly subjected to “acts of physical violence and mental coercion” and sexually exploited by members of the alleged crime group.
According to the agency, victims were lured with pretenses of love and later intimidated, placed under surveillance, and subjected to other control tactics while being coerced into engaging in pornographic acts for the financial gain of the crime group.
The prosecutors are also looking into accusations of money laundering, but have not issued any related charges.
In the UK, a legal firm is planning to launch a civil action against Andrew Tate on behalf of three alleged victims of sexual and physical assaults.
The allegations date back to when Tate was living in the UK, and he has denied them.
The Tate brothers have become famous for their controversial views on a range of issues, including women’s rights and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Andrew Tate has more than 150,000 followers on Twitter and has courted controversy in the past with his comments on topics such as domestic violence and suicide.
