Alec Baldwin, the 65-year-old actor, has resumed filming for the movie Rust after the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was shot and killed on the film set in October 2021.
Baldwin was holding a prop gun that unexpectedly discharged live rounds, causing the accident.
Baldwin was photographed on Friday in character as Harland Rust, wearing a gray shirt with blood-stained cuffs, gray pants, a button-up black vest, high leather boots, and an orange bandana around his neck.
He had been away from the project since the accident happened in New Mexico.
Baldwin Resumes Filming
Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria Baldwin, and their children had enjoyed a sushi dinner with him before he returned to the Montana set.
An eyewitness reported that the family was in a good mood and in good spirits.
Rust is filming at the Yellowstone Film Ranch in Paradise Valley, Montana.
Halyna’s widower, Matthew Hutchins, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Baldwin and Rust‘s producers, which was settled in October 2022.
The settlement included completing the movie with Matthew, an executive producer, and Bianca Cline, working in Halyna’s place.
Joel Souza, the film’s director, said he would make every effort to honor Halyna’s legacy and make her proud.
Baldwin’s Attorneys Respond
Criminal charges against Baldwin were dropped temporarily, which led to his return to the Rust film set.
Baldwin and Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were both previously charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, but prosecutors dropped a firearms enhancement charge against both parties in February.
Charges against Gutierrez-Reed remain unchanged.
Baldwin’s lawyers, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro said they were pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against him and encouraged a proper investigation into the accident’s facts and circumstances.
Baldwin later shared a post on Instagram, thanking his wife for her support and likely referring to his attorney when he wrote, “And to you, Luke.”
Baldwin’s return to the Rust film set will undoubtedly be closely monitored, and the outcome of the investigation into the accident is still unknown.
